The Olde World Bakery and Café — Restaurant in Smithville

I’m giving this review one star, not because of the quality of the food. The quality of the food was great. We enjoyed our lunches. Unfortunately, racism in this world clearly still exist. We were a party of 4 going in for a quick breakfast before hitting the road toward our next destination. We asked to have breakfast but unfortunately we arrived at “10:41” it was past there “10:30am” cut off time. Despite the fact that the location was completely empty, rules are rules and we respect them. The young woman in the front offered us to go to the “Mexican place” around the corner if we truly were interested in breakfast. We each decided it was better simply to order lunch and proceed with our day. Shortly after we were there, we noticed another party of 3 young ladies, clearly looked like locals, one of which who ordered breakfast. This young lady was discreetly served her breakfast in a container and left quickly there after. They clearly did not want to serve us breakfast. We are Latinos and you can clearly see it in our face and accents. It’s very sad that in today’s “modern” age minorities are still experiencing racisim. We decided not to address this issue or make a big deal of it at the moment. However, I felt the need to come on here and voice my experience. I wish this little bakery shop all the success in the world, I do however suggest they open up there horizons and see beyond the surface of there non local customers. This is an experience I will not quickly forget, and I hope they gain some perspective from this review and consider the feelings of other...

Oh boy . Well ima tell yall this . For all my buddies out there in bastrop, lagrange , giddings , elgin , flatonia etc. When deer season was in full effect about 5 yrs ago. I decided too stop in. I was in search of those home style biscuits an gravy around 10am that Saturday. It was about 25 degrees outside an I was hungry for a nice warm breakfast. So I ordered the (BISCUIT) an sausage gravy. Ima tell ya if you eat the whole thing well you can just forget any further activities besides football an knapping 😋. So I learned that it's like two meals. An absolutely the finest an above all around that I've seen. Since then I've created the Deer Hunters special aka Terences special. Mind yall I didn't know these folks from Adam. Now I get the biscuit with sausage gravy with a fried egg on top an cheese. Splash it with some special sauce of mine an its just heaven before heaven yall. So yall get ready guys an galls . Just teller you want that an good luck hunting . Now I save my other half for lunch . I also love the daily lunch specials but miss out due too work. Yall should come on out an give them a try. While I was there I honestly couldn't believe a son brought his mother from Fredericksburg just too get that Saturday breakfast till 2pm. He used too live here he said an moved back home too fredicksburg too be closer too his mother. I definitely would recommend the chicken salad an pastries as I've seen people coming from all over. Yall come on out MONDAY - SATURDAY MON -FR 8-130PM or 2 or so Saturdays Breakfast all day...

This place was always my favorite go to when I worked in smithville. I would always order the biscuit and gravy for pick up and the place was welcoming. It's been about 5-6 months since I've visited this place and I was very disappointed with the customer service I received today. I went up to order my food because I sat at a table for more than 5 minutes waiting on someone ( I never dined in so I didn't know if you ordered at the counter and then sat down) I ended up going to the counter and there was a young lady in a black shirt and a braid inputting a order but never acknowledged that I was standing in front of her. She finished inputting her order walked away, walked back to the front where I was still standing there and then proceeded to walk to the back asking for someone else. After several minutes of just standing there, she decided to finally acknowledge me with "what can I get for you?" with a very I have no choice but to help you attitude and made me feel rushed when ordering my food. It was a very disappointing experience because I was very excited to come back to olde world bakery and bring my fiancé for his first time. Not sure if...
