Update 1.2025 So I hadn't been in a few months (probably 3) and we decided to call in and order. They answered the phone and I said, "hello, I would like to place a carryout order please"...the response, "Shonda? Is that you!?!?" ...I am deadđ€Ż ...my son said that is crazy and I agree...needless to say ...the oxtail, peas n rice, plantain, cabbage veggies and gravy STILL DONT FREAKING DISAPPOINT... Update 5.17.23 DONT GO HERE unless you want to be addicted!!!! Y'all I am so for real. This freaking food...got me feingin.. I went and bought food at the grocery with the intention to go home AND COOK but the urge for oxtails overcame me and I have learned there is no substitute and the craving isn't gonna just leave...so I literally walked in with an attitude cause it don't make no sense. Yeah sometimes they slow AF and be taking their time but um ...I will wait...after all these years I have learned exactly when to go before and after the rush. Update 3-29-23 They survived the pandemic and are thriving. Oxtail still on point, flavorful, tender, seasoned properly. Awesome service. You will likely have a wait but it is sooo worth it for me. There is really no comparison (I am not a paid spokesperson đ€Ș). If you think you know of better Caribbean food around here please let me know for real. The price went up since Covid but I was gonna suggest they raise the price anyway just so they don't go bankrupt trying be inexpensive. It's is worth the price to know when I sit down to eat I will not be disappointed Update 9-22-21 OMG I stopped by at about 845 pm just before they closed so I was not surprised they were out of oxtail. I decided to get the curry goat.. OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS!!! I had nooo idea the curry was soooo good. Perfect. Now if you or your children can't do spicy you may wanna ask for a sample before purchasing. I cannot wait for it to get cold outside to order a large curry goat and use it to warm my insides!!! This is a great spot...of yeah I gotta be honest I did get the mac n cheese once and it was pretty gross for real. I will try one more time at some point but not trynna risk it. Maybe it was just a fluke but I will return 1000xs regardless.
2020 I cannot believe I forgot to leave a review for this spot (for 2 years). The oxtail are always on point...seasoned but NOT SALTY. I love my oxtail "swimming" which means waaayyy too much gravy and they are always happy to oblige. The curry goat is tender and flavorful. Every now and then the plantain may be slightly underipe but just let it soak in the gravy ;] đ. Sides are the expected peas and rice, cabbage, carrots combo. I go here at least twice a month (at least). Oh the cow foot soup...unwrinkle ur face...it is really good and hearty but not heavy, slightly spicy and u can request not to have a huge cow foot added to ur bowl (someone else will gladly eat it on your behalf). If u read this far then I suggest u def try it u won't be disappointed. If you are let them know and they will...
Read moreI've been patronizing C&L since April 2025, after starting a new job on this side of town. I would come here once or twice per week, with coworkers for lunch, and everything was consistent up until today. There were two new faces, allegedly the owner (Cynthia) and new employee, who I've never seen. I ordered jerk chicken and my partner ordered oxtail. We witnessed the owner literally breathe over the worker's shoulder, questioning why she's putting oxtail gravy on my partner's plate. We had to chime in and ask her what she's doing and she introduced herself as the owner and said "I've never seen this". The newer staff had to tell Cynthia "I charged them extra"...we always order the same thing and know the expectations. My partner and I asked where a missing staff went (we knew a mixed/Spanish woman, but not her name, since we're regular), only for the owner to say "She's no longer with us". If you're the owner, why wouldn't you know how other people are running your business? It's clear she's used to collecting the check without knowing anything and being out of touch with her staff. The other staff had an attitude because of the owner micro-managing everything, and was rushing to take orders so the normal customer service is GONE. Things happen with replacing staff, I get it, but the quality of the food took a turn for the worst. My rice and peas were burned, jerk chicken flavorless and oxtail subpar. I had to go to McDonalds up the street to satisfy my hunger smh. I wish my Jamaican people would stay consistent with staff to run a successful business. Cynthia, if you're reading this, you need to bring that other woman back and do better. I won't be returning and will be on the hunt for newer place with better food, staff...
