After we considered waiting at another local restaurant, we journeyed on to find a good place for a sit-down meal. The seven of us- my wife, child, and I (the out-of-towners) and my good friend and his family of the Mrs., and two teenagers - were absolutely famished.
It was getting late and on a whim, we decided to enter this fine-looking establishment. The place was relatively empty save for the local pagentry at the bar and a jazz-ish band playing classic rock covers.
Our server, Boo was quite incredible - the pinnacle of hospitality. We ordered drinks, including my good friend partaking in a "rum bucket". From there, our experience took a turn.
While considering our meals and having a rousing series of small-talk conversations, the band played on. My good friend, being a practitioner in audio and visual technologies began to comment on the quality of the audibles' mixture.
After ordering, we waited. And continued doing so for well over an hour, while we began to see a plot unfold:
Sunlight faded quickly, and the table grew dark. So much so that my wife, ever the innovator, pulled a pocket flashlight out and placed it in the flower vase.
Eventually, Boo, our gracious host, commented on us sitting in the dark, immediately speaking with colleagues to turn the lights on. Finally, I could see the family.
Our appetizers came and were immediately demolished by the masses, toot suite. Gone in a flash, with all waiting for more.
But then the lights near immediately turned back down. Then off, then other harsh, blued florescents struck from a room away.
From confusion rose the cause: it seemed at first that a patron complained about the lights being on. We scoffed in our darkness. But as minutes turned to tens, then twenties, the true culprit of our shaded table was revealed. The band refused to play with the lights on, even threatening to leave.
In the shadows, Boo, our illuminated, reported to me that the kitchen no longer had the necessary components to craft my order. I asked for the menu, and ordered anew. It happens.
Eventually, after what seemed as eons of iterations in luminance, the lights repeatedly dimming and rising, we were gifted with just enough to see our still empty table.
Eventually our order began to come, but piecemeal, two plates, five minutes, one plate and a partial, minutes on, two more plates, then nothing as one stricken young man went without while the rest dug in.
Boo, ever watching, admitted to a new fryer being the cause of the delay and happily offered a free portion of lovely hush puppies to the patient youngster awaiting the entree.
After a few more minutes, the last plate arrived.
And as to shorten the rest, as you've undoubtedly read all of this:
The food was okay. The potatoes undercooked. The band played louder. And the lights stayed dim.
We mostly finished our dinner when wonderous Boo offered a discount for the troubles. In no way was our difficulties on her.
We paid the heft bill, thanked Boo, and left questioning our choices.
Perhaps without a shadowy band and an experienced fryer, our time would have been lovely. Perhaps we will try...
Read moreDid you know that there is a new restaurant in town? Do you know anything about this restaurant? Have you ever had a waiter that would passionately and lovingly talk about the restaurant he was working at? Well then you need to visit the “Coast to Coast Restaurant” on Solomons Island, MD. We had a lovely surprise last night. As we walked past the outdoors bulletin board of the new Coast to Coast Restaurant, listed was our favorite appetizer, Calamari. After the hostess seated us near a window overlooking the harbor, JOHN the waiter, appeared. And did he ever appear! He did not start by asking us what we wanted to drink. No, JOHN told us about the Coast to Coast! He demonstrated excitement, was energetic and truly dedicated as he announced the following: “Our seafood is fresh, not frozen and comes in fresh every day. “” We make this… and … that. fresh here every day here,” (Including their chips, dips, and the best Cinnamon Honey Corn Fritters. They are to die for.) “We purchase produce from the local farmers.” And on and on he went. We listened intently and were impressed with JOHN’S passion and demonstrated pride towards this restaurant. We were hooked after that introduction. Then, JOHN took our beverage order. I am sure you would like to hear about the food. If you like fresh, not always fried, seafood, then Coast to Coast is for you. Getting past the appetizer list was difficult because so many of my favorites were listed: Muscles, Crab Dip, Shrimp Nachos, Calamari, etc. I wish we could have tried them all. Next time. We are Calamari connoisseurs. Cooking Fresh Calamari is tricky because it should be lightly breaded, and flash fried to keep it from getting tough and chewy. The chef cooked the Calamari to perfection! My husband ordered the Lobster Roll. Two lobster stuffed buns with the fixings served to the side arrived. Yes, I snatched a couple of lobster pieces. There were so many interesting menu choices. JOHN, The Waiter, offered up a suggestion and I went with Norfolk Combo cooked in Garlic Butter and lightly topped with Capers. It was So Good! The Restaurant is offering coupons: for every $100 spent, patrons will receive a $5.00 discount towards their next visit. Who offers that? Coast to Coast’s menu is interesting and refreshing, the menu changes often. So, ask about the specials. Truly, it was difficult to make a choice. The food was delicious, fresh, and well presented. Did I mention their musical presentations? Well check out the website for who is appearing. We will be returning. We will be asking for JOHN, the waiter. His enthusiasm and dedication to this restaurant and his job was a really refreshing change. John made dinning out and our dinner was fun and enjoyable. This island restaurant is a keeper. Please go out and give it a try!!! I don’t think you will be...
Read moreFirst and LAST time! Honestly, if I could give 0 stars, I would. The one star is only for Shanice and the male server who I saw actually doing his best to work a large party in the separate dining area.
My family & I (party of 11) were excited to attend the R&B brunch w/ CJ (Dj Drumma) on Saturday, July 12th. Our reservation was for 12. We were greeted by the hostess and sat when majority of our party was there by 12:10. There was a female server working the main dining area and a male server working a private party. We sat for over 30 minutes without being acknowledged by the female server. We went to the hostess on 3 separate occasions to let her know we haven’t been greeted nor served yet. Approximately 45 minutes after being seated, Shanice came over to help which I don’t think she was actually supposed to be serving. We ordered bottomless mimosas which the flyer said $20 but the price on the brunch menu said $25 (false advertisement). It took maybe another 15-20 minutes to receive the first round of mimosas. We then ordered food off the brunch menu. About 1 hr passed and we still never received any food. We never even received glasses of water nor silverware. It was 10 minutes before 2 and DJ Drumma was wrapping up his session. We asked to cancel our food order bc was it even placed. If it wasn’t for the vibes of the music from Dj Drumma, we would’ve left after the first half hour of not being acknowledged.
We were told that the employees were there until 4am that morning from the previous night, therefore, a lot of them called out and there was only 1 cook and I believe 1 bartender.
THIS IS WHY I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE AT THE ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN: Our party later found out that the owner was sitting at a table near us basically the entire time. He never once walked around to greet anyone or check to see how things were going (how normal managers or owners do at other establishments). He never pitched in to help his staff take orders. He could clearly see things were chaotic and how stressed the workers looked. As far as the female server (not Shanice), she NEVER acknowledged our table even though she had to come by there to get in/out of the kitchen but helped every other table. We paid for the bottomless mimosas and left. We will never be back at Coast 2 Coast but will be sure to continue to support Dj Drumma at other...
