I’ll start by saying that arrogance is bad for a business in the food service industry. But first the good. My wife and I have visited this restaurant twice. The location is great, offering indoor and outdoor waterfront dinning especially during nice weather. The crab dip and fish bites were excellent even though we have a favorite place for these appetizers just down the road from here...the fresh crush (cocktail) definitely deserves mention as well. Our server on this visit was very pleasant, attentive and just as a customer service professional would be if they are to leave a positive first impression. Which is why we made a second visit, last night. On this second visit we had the seafood cannelloni and their house burger. Great meals, both. The pasta was perfect and the burger was cooked to perfection.
Unfortunately that’s where the good ends and I begin to explain my one star rating. I’ll never go back here for one simple reason which I stated in my opening. Arrogance from a server is a good way to turn an otherwise delicious meal and evening, sour. Throughout our meal this server’s behavior was the opposite of the server from the first visit. I don’t expect groveling but some humility and pleasantry in providing service would be nice; especially when you’re being shown respect. She simply made us feel like we were bothering her every time we asked for something. Her answers were very short and rude like. Then, at the end of the meal I got the bill and questioned it because there was a beer on it that was sent back. She quickly took the bill and corrected it. However, her behavior about it made me ask if the beer was left on purpose or by mistake. To which she explained that because they “typically offer samples of beer” they normally still charge a beer that is sent back. Before leaving I apologized for the misunderstanding, and suggested that in the future she might [actually] offer the sample before following through with this policy. However, her response was once again arrogant so I doubt it mattered to her that I took the time to address her personally instead of writing this bad review.
To wrap it up, as you can see I ended up leaving this bad review nonetheless. Because of her arrogant attitude, first, and also more importantly because of the arrogance shown by the manager on duty. I called back to the restaurant after we left and asked to speak with manager. I was told he was busy and could not talk at the moment. So I left my name and number but never got return call. Note, I had just left the restaurant so I know just how “busy” they were. When I left, half the staff including our server, were socializing at the bar. I guess this business is doing pretty well for themselves that they can afford to treat certain patrons with less respect than others. I’ve dined almost everywhere else on Solomon’s Island and I never had this poor experience. Good food does not make up for arrogant...

Read moreYesterday a group of us stopped here for cocktails and a cigar after our boat charter. Before going in I asked the hostess if we could have a cigar outside, she replied “not where people are eating but you are welcomed to sit in the lounge area” on the side. We came in (there were 7 of us) ordered a round of drinks, had a laugh with some guests about their dessert and their “cheat day” and proceeded outside. We were harassed by a young man in black shorts and a black shirt but said “I am the owner of this establishment” from the moment we walked in. He asked our guest “what is in your cup” while we were waiting for our drinks. Chased members of our party outside when they proceeded to empty tables-not realizing the “lounge area” was on the side. And once our other guest lit his cigar, ran back out to tell him that guests (literally no one outside) could smell his cigar so he could not smoke it And “it wasn’t working out”. The last time he raised his voice, I told him “you have done nothing but harassed us since we walked in. We greeted your hostess, asked if we could have a cigar here before we ever came in, placed a large order for drinks and paid our tab to proceed outside. He stated that “the hostess staff does not have the authority to tell us we can sit outside”. What? It was 92 degrees my guest had a cup in her hand-he asked “what’s in your cup” I told him water but thought about this as he was speaking later and told him-if you do not accept outside drinks, say that and offer the guest to throw the cup away. You do not ask another adult “what’s in your cup”. Our group made up of Secret Service (the cigar smoker) a doctor, nurse, real estate broker/owner, Corporate Tech, Developer, and Insurance Exec, were ALL of color. This young man was rude, arrogant and clearly discriminatory. I cannot speak for the establishment because the guests were lovely but this young man should not be dealing with the public and needs to learn some manners...
