We found Grand Shanghai and have been pretty happy with the taste of their food, but they tend to mess up something on every order we have gotten.
Tonight, I ordered Vegetable Lo Mein. I made sure to tell them what veggies I don't like (mushrooms, peppers,) and then told them what I do like, such as broccoli, pea pods, carrots, water chestnuts.) What I received in my "vegetable" lo mein was 4 small broccoli florets, 1 small piece of cabbage, 4 slivers of celery that were no wider than the noodles and 2 teeny, tiny slivers of carrot. That's it. It was little more than a bowl of noodles.
When I called the restaurant, the first woman I spoke with explained that it didn't look like a lot of veggies because "the vegetables cook down." HUH? I don't think so. She passed the phone to another woman who talked over me and laughed at me, explaining that I should have asked to have vegetables put into my order of vegetable lo mein. I lamely tried to tell her that most customers would expect vegetables to be included in an order of vegetable lo mein, but that made her laugh harder. She further suggested that I should have ordered EXTRA veggies. MY BAD.
So, I am passing along this information for any other customers who may want to try their vegetable dishes...be sure to be super clear on wanting vegetables in your vegetable dish.
IN RESPONSE TO THE BUSINESS OWNER: I am not some kid who just discovered Chinese cuisine...I have been eating vegetable lo mein for decades. I know exactly what vegetable lo mein is supposed to look like. And although it is a "noodle dish," when you're selling it with vegetables (and charging people money for the vegetables,) it should contain actual vegetables. Your suggestion that the 2 teeny tiny slivers of carrot in my dish "cooked down" is ludicrous. Stop trying to sell the idea that carrots and other hard vegetables "cook away." You see, I have also been cooking for decades and have never had a carrot or broccoli "cook down."
No need to worry, though, we won't be darkening your doorstep with our pesky...
Read moreI have eaten here before but this time there were different people working there and unfortunately I could barely understand them. I ordered my food for delivery and first of all the driver came to my house and sat outside in his car. The person from grand shanghai called me to tell me my delivery person was sitting outside in his car. Since when do we have to go get your food from the driver outside in his car. Then we take our food out of the bag and they were missing our cheese wontons so I call them and I had to try to explain to someone who I could hardly understand that they didn't send my cheese wontons. So after the conversation with this woman and man on the phone they tell me they will send out the order of cheese wonton. So I get it and my daughter goes to eat one and she saw pink in it and ask me to see what it was and it was some type of seafood. So I again have to call them and ask them what it is and they say it was crab well my daughter is highly allergic to seafood so thank God she didn't eat it. So I ask them if they could just send me a wonton soup and I will give them the cheese wonton back. They told me that they couldn't bring it out because they already had to come out again to bring me the cheese wontons that they forgot. So she told me I could come pick it up and I told her I was disabled and didn't drive and she told me that was my problem. Needless to say I will never order from them again. I will be ordering from Chan's Garden again. This is what I get for trying somewhere else. What a...
