07/2022 update The restaurant is finally open for eat in. The lunch special was wonderful. We had a wonderful time. We ordered 9 rolls together and requested a boat. The manager remembered that I like rolls cut into 8 pieces, which is impressive after a long break . 🍣 🍣 🍣 🍣 🍣 🍣 🍣 🍣 🍣 🍣 🍣 🍣
10/2021: Short temper of staff and repeated mistakes in take out orders.
I ordered 5 sushi lunches to go, each with 3 rolls of sushi. That's our usual order. Over time, I noticed that "accidents" and "mistakes" become more and more frequent. Most recently, we ordered our lunch about a month ago, the food came with the wrong types of rolls. we had to drive back and exchange plain vegetable rolls for the ones that we had paid for with eel and avocado. There was no apology then.
This time they gave us one lunch order with just one roll. At the dinner table, We noticed that one lunch was missing 2 rolls and took pictures of what you see below. After a lot of back-and-forth with text messaging (the pictures didn't come through) and having to prove their mistake, the manager called me back together with a chef on a speaker. they accused me of lying that basically someone took out the two rolls. They claim that since the boxes made for three rolls and now there is only one in the Box somebody took the other two out (note that the box is obviously very clean and there is not a drop of sauce or rice around the single roll).. Also please note that I repeatedly requested all the roles to be cut into eight pieces instead of six. As you can see, that wasn't done. Needless to say that the screaming of the chef over the phone is inexcusable and will not...
Read moreI have been trying to avoid this restaurant since wayback 2017 when I saw that the people are smoking while preparing the food. Last Sunday, I caved in when there was no other restaurant that is open at noon and we were starving. The place was literally empty when we got in - worked well for us since I have my 4-month old with me. My boyfriend and I ordered a shumai, calamari, pad thai, and sushi sashimi combo. Couple minutes later and our food was out. We were famished so were glad that it only took a couple minutes for our appetizers to arrive. And then it immediately turned into disappointment. The shumai they served is something that you can buy off Safeway or any asian market. It tasted cheap and we can tell that it was not home-made. The pad thai was bad and the shrimp that comes with it tasted stale. The sushi/sashimi was not fresh. I know because I always get sushi/sashimi whenever we eat at any asian restaurants. The tuna and salmon was served FROZEN - the inside of the fish was cold. The yellowtail tasted ok but definitely not fresh. Well, at least the server was nice. If you want to get an authentic asian food, DO NOT GO...
Read moreIn an era now bygone, one could get classic Chinese fare from the Shops at Sumner Place from China Pavilion, a tasty stop now known only in memory. Now, your only hope for Asian cuisine in the realm is Passion Fin. As their name suggests, their passion is fish. The sushi bar is above average, dare I say excellent. The hot dishes are crowd pleasers, but nothing to text home about. The prices are reasonable, especially for Bethesda, doubly so if you stop by for lunch. It will never earn a place in my heart like China Pavilion, but Passion Fin has earned a place in my belly....
