I have been to the Buzzin Bean twice. Both times, the staff were friendly, the coffee was great, the food was decent, and it is an impeccably cute space. You may be wondering why I have left such a low review, if all of these aspects of the restaurant were superb. This has to deal with something I noticed changed between my visits to this cafe. First of all, I must mention that the mission behind the Buzzin Bean is in part to create a safe space for autistic youth, which I support wholeheartedly as someone neurodiverse myself. I am also physically disabled with a condition that causes me to need the restroom quite frequently. My first visit to the Buzzin Bean, I was able to use their public restroom. However, after going back for a second visit, I noticed that the restroom now has a note on it designating it for employees only. The Buzzin Bean seems like a friendly establishment, so I was quite surprised to see that the management had taken such an unwelcoming decision. This bothers me so much as the restroom is in plain sight, and it is a change from when it was previously open to the public. I don't think I can return to this restaurant anymore because if I eat there I will be ridden with the shame of my physical condition and I will feel anxious to eat or drink in fear of triggering any sort of bathroom activity, which can especially be the case for many coffee drinkers. Certainly, the staff are approachable and kind, so if I desperately needed the restroom, I could ask, but this would make me feel "othered" as someone with a physical disability. I think I am mostly surprised that a restaurant with a message that I believed in, a place where I felt genuinely included as a neurodivergent individual, has now left me back on the outskirts feeling unwelcome and excluded. I will miss the food and drink, but I must take care of my body and my comfort, so I will not be returning to the...
Read moreAn incredible new vegetarian café is buzzing into Somerville — and it is truly something special.
The Buzzin’ Bean recently held a sample day ahead of its upcoming grand opening, and the energy was warm, welcoming, and full of promise. I had the chance to speak with the owners, who are passionate about building not just a business, but a community hub rooted in purpose and inclusion.
Here’s why the Buzzin’ Bean is so unique:
This isn’t just a café — it’s the beginning of a dream. A dream to create a future filled with love, purpose, and belonging — for their autistic son and for the vibrant community around them. Like many families raising autistic children, the owners have long imagined a space that uplifts neurodiverse individuals and celebrates ability, not limitation.
At the heart of every great neighborhood is a place that brings people together. The Buzzin’ Bean is that place — an inclusive space where kindness is served, joy is shared, and every individual is valued for exactly who they are.
More than just coffee and food, this is a movement — and Somerville is lucky to have it.
Stay tuned. The Buzzin’ Bean will open its doors soon — and when it does, you’ll want...
Read moreSo I stopped at this shop to give it a try for iced coffee and I asked them to melt my sugar. I noticed that the girl was melting my sugar with water. I told her no because it’s going to make my coffee watery. I asked her to melt it with coffee, her mother came in and decided to tell me how they make their coffee. She proceeded to tell me that her iced coffee is already made and I said I understand that I said I just want her to melt my eight sugars with coffee so she snatched the cup out. Her daughter‘s hand put three sugars melted it with coffee did not stir it poured it in the cup, so the sugar wasn’t fully melted. Her daughter told her I wanted caramel she squeeze like three little drops of caramel filled the cup up didn’t even ask if I got cream. I told her I got five creams so there was no space for her to put five creams and then she asked me do I want more cream I was looking at her like I did not even want the coffee anymore. Because you’re not making it to my liking it was a small iced coffee with caramel five creams and eight sugars I would have got vanilla flavor, but they charge a dollar for each flavor.! that service was horrible and I really wanted to...
