If you want to get taken advantage of at this restaurant then go ahead.
I went with friends for the first time and at first we were all excited to go because it’s aesthetically pretty with the decor, perfect if you want instagram pictures.
We arrive and order apps and cocktails for starters but here is when it gets interesting. We get the apps and no cocktails. We order another app and still no cocktail. Once our third app arrives, we tell the person that brought them that we still had no cocktails and the waitress that took our order came by and was told also we still had no cocktails.
So as this delayed service is happening, we decide to just order food to go because of how slow the service was. We didn’t order more cocktails also because again it was taking so long just to get one.
So we were hanging out at our table waiting for our food and check to pay for the 1 cocktail, apps and the food that was ordered to go and the waitress by the name of Yuliana M tells us some excuse that another party that reserved our table had arrived and she needed us to vacate the table and wait for our check and food by the bar where it was overwhelmingly crowded.
Then we get our food and no check so I remind the waitress to get it because at that point we just wanted to leave.
In conclusion we pay for our check and the waitress is hovering over me while I pay and then questions me about tip…After the bad service and kicking out the table & now questioning the tip basically assuming I wasn’t giving one.
Because we were rushed on the way out we didn’t bother to look at the check and as we left I took a look at the receipt and noticed we were charged for 4 additional cocktails we definitely did not order.
We go back in the restaurant and really upset we tell the hostess we got incorrectly charged and Yuliana M comes back out and basically gaslights us because she was trying to act like she did serve us those extra cocktails and her attitude was not appreciated either. Finally after reminding her of what we really ordered she gets me the cash to refund us for the wrong items.
Then proceeds to be jokingly telling us to calm down, sarcasm and her overall attitude was not it.
It’s a shame because the food was great, but it is overpriced.
If you go, pay attention to what you're paying for.
Sadly I will not be coming back and will spread this experience to...
Read moreI recently went into the newly opened Tulum @tulum_somerville restaurant, nestled in the vibrant heart of East Somerville at 3 Washington St, Somerville, MA 02143. This gem is a fresh addition to the locale, and while securing a liquor license in Massachusetts is notoriously challenging, Tulum creatively circumvents this with an array of stunning mocktails. 🍉🌿 Their basil watermelon mocktail was a refreshing delight, scoring a perfect 10/10, while the tajin and mango mocktail, with its tangy zest, was a solid 8/10. If you’re a fan of tajin, their signature tajin stick is a must-try!
Appetizer-wise, we indulged in their shaved street corn, a tasteful twist on the classic with less mayo, more lime juice, tajin, and queso fresco, earning it an 8/10. Accompanied by flimsy yet tasty plantain chips, this dish is a fantastic choice for those who prefer their corn with a tangy kick. The chicken nachos were another hit, lavishly topped with guacamole and jalapeños, each bite packed with flavor and well-cooked chicken, also scoring an 8/10. 🌽🧀
For main dishes we tried the cochinita pibil. This dish had slow-cooked pork served on a banana leaf, was succulent and rich in flavor, a hearty 8/10. The chiles rellenos, however, were a mixed bag for me, reminiscent of pizza sauce and cheese, landing at a 5/10. It might just boil down to personal taste. 🍴🐖
Dessert was the crowning glory of our meal. The flan de mama was exceptionally creamy and rich, easily one of the best flans I’ve ever savored, a well-deserved 10/10. And the churros with ice cream? Heavenly warm with a scrumptious filling, a definite 9/10. 🍮🍦
It’s great to have a new Mexican cuisine hotspot nearby! I’m eagerly looking forward to my next visit, with the fajitas and mole high on my list. 🌮🍴
Food: 8/10 🌮 Affordability: 8/10 💰 Ambiance: 8/10 🌆 Tulum restaurant is a vibrant new addition to East Somerville, promising an unforgettable dining experience with its delicious offerings and warm ambiance. Can’t wait...
Read moreI was excited to come here but sadly, disappointed. I’ll say the food and drinks are really good and the restaurant is pretty. The service lacks and isn’t as friendly. We didn’t feel like the server liked us after asking too many questions/asking for suggestions but since the food was good we shrugged it up. Then our suspicions were proven true. We had a reservation and were in the middle of eating our food and drinks when the server tells us there was another reservation coming and that we had to go. I’ve never been asked to leave as I am actively finishing my drinks and food… we also wanted to order more drinks and enjoy but yet we were being rushed out. The alleged reservation for our table hadn’t even arrived yet. When we asked if there was a time limit for reservations and why it wasn’t said on the website, the server said that it’s not typical to have a time limit but they were too busy and if it wasn’t busy we could have stayed. We then were asked if we wanted more drinks despite being rushed out? When the server sensed we weren’t happy, she then offered us a table upstairs which made no sense since they were allegedly too busy to have us there and also if there was space upstairs why not sit the reservation up there? We were there after work and commuted all the way there so we weren’t trying to argue and just decided to leave. As someone that worked in the restaurant industry all of this gave poor planning, lack of good customer service, and just a server that didn’t like us and wanted us out. A real shame because not only did we want more drinks and desserts which would have been more money for them, we would have come back too. Needless to say, I will not be coming back and won’t be recommending this...
