China House — Restaurant in South Bend

This has been my go-to Chinese spot for at least twelve years and it's always the right amount for a good price. I've been craving their authentic taste since I was locked indoors during the January 2019 polar vortex and only now got back to the neighborhood. I got my usual chicken lo mein and it was good as usual, and in record time!

Certainly I can make my own at home but it's so bland in comparison but it's better than the overpriced and unappetizing foods the Chinese 'restaurant' just a few blocks from me serves. Yuck. Anyway, come here to China House for fast and friendly service. After a few visits the wife (I'm sorry, never got to know her name) will recognize you and will remember your order if you consistently order the same meal. Very efficient.

I want to add at the time of this comment we're still under lockdown because of the you-know-what fear and it's awesome the crew are still serving the community with only slightly adjusted hours (11am-9pm) but are still doing it in person which is my preference. I would have given it 5 stars if my latest trip didn't go wrong. I ordered a beef and snow peas, but what I got was beef and chinese vegetables which for allergy reasons I can't have! I got home and opened it up. It looks like beef with just snowpeas at first. The deeper I got I find corn! I can't have corn! I also found a crab shell in my food. Keep in mind that I had to eat this in order to find out about both the corn and the crab shell! They told me that I had to bring it back uneaten and full in order for them to replace it which is against COVID RULES! I also never got the rice or the drink I ordered! My kid ordered something that they get all the time and we are willing to pay for the extra, but this has made me not want to come back and I come there a lot! My family and I just enjoyed a great lunch at the China House! Made to order, hot, delicious food! One of my children has severe milk and egg allergies, so we take her a meal every time we go somewhere new. The lady who took our order took notice and approched us. She mentioned she felt sad that my daughter wasn’t able to eat there. In conversation we told her about the allergies, and she told us about hers. She then went through all the different options on how we can order food that is safe for my daughter.
