Talked a big game, didn’t back it up. Owner became rude and confrontational twice without even being provoked. Ordered and paid top dollar for what was supposed to be a high end wedding cake and got a pathetic attempt at what it was supposed to be. Spoke with them several times about details that were just totally left off or had pathetic effort attempted. A few days before The wedding I dropped off the doves for the cake topper. The owner was reviewing the cake with me and mistakenly miss calculated the number of servings the cake was going to provide. I told him that we had discussed a larger number when I paid them and he immediately got defensive and claimed that he offered the larger serving size and I was not willing to pay for it which was 100% false. The first price he proposed to me I told him was fine. After we went back-and-forth which I did politely because I wanted them to do a good job on the cake, he finally admitted he did his math wrong in calculating the servings. His defense of nature in claiming I wasn’t willing to pay was literally just an excuse he made up on the spot because he miss calculated how many servings would actually have been in the cake. Honestly the difference between what they promised and what they delivered was so far apart it’s unbelievable. I’ll be adding the photos of the finished product once I receive them from our photographer. I was supposed to bring him fresh flowers the day before the wedding and spared no expense getting several bouquets to make sure he had everything he needed. Without even looking at what I had he made an extremely root comment to me about how I didn’t bring the flowers he requested. He also failed to apologize when I showed him that in fact I had all the flowers he requested and some to make sure there’s no way he wouldn’t have what he needed. That was the second time he became rude for no reason. The final cake they delivered had less than half of the promised detail and was an almost childlike attempt at what we had requested. The owner could not have been nicer during our consultation, when it was time to write them a check. But every bit of the experience after that was awful. They were rude several times, the owner even made things up just to be argumentative. He also had a very condescending tone any time I talk to him once he had already gotten payment. I emailed initially about cupcakes for my daughters birthday but then decided to go with a small round cake with a abstract design I ordered a marble cake with the design in the timely manner they require I go pick up my cake in the date set, got it home and stored it till the next day for the party We go to cut our cake and realize it’s not marble it’s a white cake!!! Not what I ordered at all!! The bakery is closed on Sundays and Monday’s so I waited till Tuesday to call. When I called in I was told that I got what ordered and that on the order paper marble was scratched out and made white, that the owner would discuss the order with his employee to see what happened but told me he would make me another cake and have it ready by the end of the day I explained I didn’t need another cake given the party was over the weekend He then got very short and rude and said that due to Covid he wouldn’t be giving me a refund But to accept the cake I told him I need to go due to go into work and would call later to further discuss the matter and how to resolve it So that brings me to today, I called back in While on hold the owner spoke with the employee too only come on the phone to tell me that the cake was made as marble but broke That a employee attempted to call me (twice) and wasn’t able to leave a message because there wasn’t a way to leave one (which is a lie because I didn’t get any missed calls or voicemails) I told the owner that which again he became very rude and short, that even if I didn’t receive the calls why wasn’t I made aware when picking up the cake He then told me of some emergency and he would deal with me “next week” and hung up!!! I just received a call from Jenni at Capital City Cakes. She spoke to the manager/owners and they agreed to refund the full amount I was originally charged. I truly appreciate Capital City Cakes for making this right. Jenni was a pleasure to speak with this evening as we discussed the situation.

I have ordered from Capital City Cakes in the past and have received excellent service and baked items. My experience today was very disappointing. I placed an order today (Tuesday, March 29th) for 50 cake pops to be picked up on Friday April1st. I prepaid over the phone with a credit card.
I found out my plans had changed for what I needed for my event and called 45 minutes later to cancel my order. I was told that I would not receive the full refund and would be charged $15.00 for the cancellation. I explained to the person over the phone that I was disappointed this information regarding a cancellation fee was not advised to me 45 mins ago when I placed the order. She first stated it was due to the time I spent on phone with them placing the order and how they were busy but then ultimately stated it was to cover the credit card fee from the credit card company. I told her I understood why they have to charge a fee; however, this should be explained to customers prior to completing the transaction over the phone. I could also understand if I was canceling the day before pickup due to all the work they would have done. However this was not the case. It was 45 mins after I called. She offered me a 15.00 credit in the future if I order with them but honestly they have just lost me...
