Barbie’s Baristas in Myrtle Beach is certainly a place you’ll remember. Whether or not you’ll want to is another story. When we walked in, it was hard to tell if we’d entered a coffee shop or a half-hearted Barbie dream house knockoff. But we figured, hey, let’s give it a shot.
Apparently, no one thought to staff the place because there was no one behind the counter. Instead, a woman was sitting in the corner with a baby. After a solid two minutes of waiting in silence, I casually said, “I wonder if anyone works here.” Turns out, the woman did—she owned the place, in fact. Good to know.
Then, in a surprising plot twist, she got up and left the shop. Door wide open, baby missing. I’m not entirely sure where the baby went, but she eventually returned to take our order, which she wrote down by hand. Perhaps the cash register was just for show?
It took her about 20 minutes to make our drinks, which consisted of an iced latte and an iced coffee with oat milk—simple enough, right? Not quite. These two drinks set us back almost $12, which would have been fine if they were good. Spoiler: they weren’t. The latte came with a bonus layer of granulated sugar sitting at the bottom (a choice, I suppose), and the iced coffee tasted like it had been strained through a sock.
Oh, and did I mention she left her breast milk on display with the “merchandise”? Which, by the way, consisted of some water bottles with stickers on them. Very high-end. Meanwhile, a parade of family members wandered in and out, chatting with her and grabbing things. Not awkward at all.
And as we waited for our coffee disasters, we heard the unmistakable sound of a blower, barking dogs, and people shouting. Turns out, the coffee shop is attached to a dog-washing business, separated by nothing more than plywood. Because nothing says “relaxing coffee experience” like the distant hum of a dog dryer.
In summary, if you’re looking for an overpriced cup of coffee, unexpected family visits, and a side of dog hair, Barbie’s Baristas is your place. For everyone else, Starbucks is just...
Read moreThis place was absolutely the cutest little spot ever! My mom and I travel to Myrtle Beach every year, and one of our favorite traditions is finding new coffee shops to explore together. When we stumbled across this one, it instantly felt like it was made for us. Being lifelong Barbie lovers, it was right up our alley from the moment we walked in. The entire atmosphere just radiates fun, nostalgia, and creativity—it’s impossible not to smile the second you step through the door.
The decorations were everything! From the pink details to the clever Barbie box photo spot (genius idea!), every corner felt like it had been designed with so much love and thought. It wasn’t just a coffee shop; it was an experience. I could’ve spent hours just soaking it all in, taking pictures, and admiring the adorable setup.
On top of that, the owner was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. She’s been through so much but still pours her heart into running this beautiful business, and you can really feel that when you’re there. She makes the space not only visually stunning but also warm and welcoming—it feels personal, like you’re part of her story just by visiting.
And let’s talk about the coffee—oh my goodness, it was heaven in a cup! Perfectly made, rich, smooth, and honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. I would’ve been happy if it had just been cute, but the fact that the coffee was actually amazing made it a total 10/10 in every way.
This little shop is definitely going to be a new tradition for us whenever we come back to Myrtle Beach. It’s rare to find a place that’s this adorable, welcoming, and delicious all rolled into one. We can’t wait to return next year—it’s already on our list of...
Read moreI am a local and my 11 year-old daughter and I have REALLY been wanting to check this place out, but every time that we have stopped by during open business hours (according to Google), their CLOSED sign is always up and the door is locked. Confused, I open up Google to double-check their hours, and it is supposed to be open. This has happened 4 or 5 times so I am not sure what is going on. Perhaps Google has the wrong hours posted? I still haven't been able to try it since their grand opening. We just stopped by at 11:30am today 12/23/23 and it was closed, but Google says open. There were no signs on the door saying "Closed for Holidays" or anything. Good luck catching them at the right time! Bummer because the reviews are good, but never anyone at home and we always go during the day. The Brown Fox by Creekrats is consistently open and very good so we usually just go there for a local coffee. I am surprised that no one else has mentioned the inconsistent hours on the Google Reviews....
