Initially I called Blue Wave Adventures on Monday because I wanted to inquire about a military discount. It was early in the season and I didn’t see any tours scheduled for Monday on their website. I got an answering machine so I assumed they were closed on Monday’s since it was the beginning of spring. The earlier tours for Tuesday were already filled up so I went ahead and made an online reservation for a 2 pm tour. I was pleased to receive a call from the business early Tuesday morning but told the caller I already had a reservation. I elected to not pursue a military discount. I figured that would be easier for everybody. Reading the email that was sent to confirm the reservation was helpful. It had details about parking and how to find the office. On arrival we were given a waiver to sign which I was able to review online but was unable to print ahead of time. Despite being easy to locate the pier where we were to meet the boat crew, I have a short term memory and don’t hear so well so I had to return to the office to make sure my wife and I were waiting in the right place. Maybe I missed the part about the American flag flying on a pole at the beginning of the fishing pier so perhaps a sign or signs pointing to or marking the waiting area would be helpful. Despite complaints from other Google reviewers I felt the crew was very clear on dolphin sightings not being guaranteed. I also saw on their website morning cruises tended to be better for sightings but I was still hopeful that we would find some during the afternoon. The safety briefing was not a lecture or in any way derogatory as, again, some other Google reviews of the business suggest. It was no worse than a stewardess giving a safety brief on a plane only we were on a boat. At times, the Captain injected some humor into his commentary. After leaving Murrells Inlet we cruised around for a while with no luck. Despite that, it was still a cool ride out on the open ocean on an open boat. About 50 minutes into the tour, we finally ran into a school of dolphins which we followed for a while before having to head back in. On the way back I appreciated the Captains comments on the business’s stewardship practices and the education on the environmental pollution sea creatures face today. I was totally unaware plastic is such a problem in our oceans. Overall, we had a great time. I feel that the cost to enjoyment ratio was worth the expense and was glad we decided to do the tour. I’d recommend this business and dolphin tour to friends and family. We usually come to the Myrtle Beach area once a year and would consider doing this cruise again. Thank you Blue Wave Adventures for some good memories…and a few awesome...
Read moreAmazing!! Our experience was wonderful! We had originally booked for Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning we received a call form the office stating that due to the storm the night before the captain felt it was best to delay the morning tour. We were then given the option to come for the later tour or the next day. If neither worked for us they were willing to return the ticket price. We opted for Thursday morning and I received the new confirmation email before we even got off the phone. The directions in the email made it very easy to find. As we were walking to the registration office I tripped on my own two feet and took a good tumble. Once we made it inside the Crazy Sister building I asked one of the ladies if they may have a band aid for my knee. She then had me come around and have a seat behind the counter while she tried to find the right size. Once seeing how much damage I had done to myself both ladies showered me with care. "Oh! Honey are you sure you are okay?" They gave me not just a bunch of band aids but also ointment and stuff to clean it up. They were so sweet! We then signed our waivers and were given instructions of where to head to meet the captain. As we boarded the boat we were given a few safety instructions and the captain once again mentioned that as these are wild animals we are not guaranteed to see dolphins but they would do their best to find them. It was a beautiful day for a boat ride. We traveled about 30 minutes to a location that dolphins had been spotted. And we found them!!! We watched them go from one side of the boat to the other first about half an hour. Captain Mark and Kim are a wealth of knowledge. They provided us with all sort of facts about the dolphins and their atmosphere. As we headed back to dock Mark shared facts about how much plastic ends up in the ocean and how that impacts the animals that live there. He also explained that if we each do our part we can make a huge change. I greatly appreciate that they practice what they preach in that they made two stops to pick up garbage floating in the water. Truly a wonderful experience. If you have the opportunity to take the...
Read moreFirst, this is my gaming account as I do not utilize my main for public access..My real I will include in this ..Tawnya Shriver..formerly of Indiana now resident of North Carolina. My first booking was cancelled..a reason not given..I did not ask either..they were willing to rebook for the next day .yet, I was due to go home. After a brief discussion with the party I was with..I paid for another night stay just to book the next day. Upon arrival, the staff at the desk of the Crazy Sister Marina were very helpful in aiding us with our waivers etc.. after receiving our tickets, we went to the backside of The Wicked Tuna where we were met by a photographer. She was very pleasant and snapped our photos...we then sat under the umbrella tables awaiting our Captain to usher us onboard. I will tell you, they are very patient and understanding folks as I left our 2 tickets in my pocketbook in the car...had to run back to get ..yet we were there a bit early so it worked out. We were briefed on safety issues etc prior to boarding and then briefed on life vests etc.. Captain Jaime and Amy are rock stars in my book! They were numerous and very knowledgeable regarding sea life as well history of the areas in which we saw along our ride. Unfortunately we were not able to see the dolphins..yet, Captain Jaime captivated all by retrieving a small jellyfish from the ocean..it's tentacles I believe he said we're microscopic and therefore cannot sting you as other species. We were not only able to touch it ..(the part fascinating to me)the inside of the jellyfish cap is the purest firm of iodine. Turtles eat these.. Anyway, I highly recommend a trip with Blue Waves. The staff is remarkable... The boat ride in itself made up for the lack of dolphins..I will be back for another try. Pay particular attention to Captain Jaime talk at the end of the tour...it is very enlightening to say the least it is a must see Adventure I encourage all to take. Thanks Captain Jaime and Amy for making my day. .see you soon ( with love from Indiana 💓 and North...
