Great presentation of food with underwhelming flavor. Some salt would have gone a long way.
I ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes as an appetizer and for my entry I had the Chicken Fried Steak.
The Fried Green Tomatoes presentation was very nice. They were served with pimento cheese and basaltic vinaigrette.
The breading for the tomorrow was bland. The accompanying pimiento cheese had next to no flavor. The basaltic vinaigrette clashed with the flavorless pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes. This is Charleston. Flavorless Fried Green Tomatoes just won’t cut it here
The entry was marginally better. The Chicken Fried Steak was served with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. I asked for a different side and was told it was a $3.00 up charge to switch from one vegetable to another.
The breading on the chicken fried steak was semi flavorful. The cut of meat was very thin and had completely dried out from being fried. Overall the chicken friend steak was 70% batter and 30% meat. It was served with 2 large pieces of meat and covered with a cream/pan gravy. Had it not been for the gravy the entire would have been inedible. The breading defiantly lacked salt.
The Brussels sprouts were good and was the star of the entry. However, it didn’t make up for the lack of seasoning through the entire meal. Lastly, the mashed potatoes. Standard run of the mill mashed potatoes. Unremarkable.
My whole meal cost $39.96. I think it was unreasonably over priced for what I was served.
The Iced Tea was on point though.
Cost: 1 Stars Food: 1.5 Stars Ambiance: 3 Stars Service: 4.5 Stars Overall: 2 Star Experience.
Sadly rather unremarkable experience today leaving me underwhelmed. It was sad I couldn’t get green beans without having to pay $3.00 up-charge. I’ll give them another try in a few weeks and see if it was an off day for them. Fingers crossed my second and last...
Read moreI absolutely never leave reviews for businesses but I felt completely disrespected by this restaurant and felt the need to write a review for other parents with young children. My husband and I are local, we live in Sheiveling plantation and have always thought this Bistro looked charming. We recently just had a baby, he is 3 months old and great for restaurant trips. My mom was in town and I wanted to take her somewhere close by but still nice. As anyone with a baby knows you do not have much time before they stir or wake up from a nap. We called to make a reservation on a Thursday afternoon, no response. With that being said, we made sure that the baby was fed and asleep and made the 5 minute drive down the road. When we got there we walked to the hostess as there were multiple open tables around and were told to “hold on.” No greeting whatsoever. I was holding my son, in his car seat. The hostess did not seat us and we stood in the doorway for 6 minutes as she went to talk to other customers, deliver drinks etc. all the while I’m still holding my son in his heavy car seat by the front door with open tables surrounding me. It is obvious this restaurant t is not child friendly or willing to be accommodating to families with babies. I will absolutely never recommend this restaurant to anyone in our area as I felt very shamed for...
Read moreI've never found time to write a review about any restaurant in Charleston, however, my experience at Betty Lou's was above and beyond and miles away from what I thought it would be. Me and my family went to celebrate a birthday of ours, walking in, it looked slow. We were greeted by a friendly face, a woman who had only been working there for three days she said, we were sat immediately in a table in the corner, the only downside was that I was looking into the sun, they however have blinds that extend from the ceiling to pull down whenever someone feels the need. Our waitress, I can't remember her name, was delightful. She was responsive, but not pestering, friendly, but not in our business. It looked doubtful at the beginning with her, but she recovered in spectacular fashion with her people skills. I myself had the Chicken Parm, it was seasoned delightfully and the pasta was cooked al dente and had what I believed were chopped onions in it. Overall, it was a memorable food experience accompanied by a...
