WARNING FOR FOOD ALLERGIES/SENSITIVITIES:
I am not generally one to write negative reviews, but with 10 years restaurant experience - I hope that upper management will work to give their managers better training...
We LOVED Famous Toastery a few years ago - especially because they offer GF inclusive menus (which my whole family requires) - until the last few years when service standards have majorly gone downhill - at multiple locations in South Charlotte.
Today, my mom and I went. From the second we walked through the doors, it was a negative experience. One hostess is making disrespectful remarks to another about “quit doing my job, I would be fine without you”. We waited more than 10 minutes for someone to approach our table. The gentleman that did was very nice, pretty much the only saving grace in this trip. We ordered and my food came out DANGEROUSLY wrong. I had ordered something that traditionally gets hollandaise sauce, which contains gluten, and asked that they leave it off. Absolutely everything that I ordered was GF, which should have been a major hint for the manager or kitchen staff. But, alas my food came with hollandaise. So, I asked that they correct the order. I hate doing that but literally I am allergic to and will have a massive reaction to the sauce. So my new plate comes out and my eggs are BURNT/heavily fried (I had order over medium) and my corned beef hash was RAW (not kidding). I asked to speak with a manager just in an attempt to get the correct food and she came over and became combative with me, blamed the server (TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT - you never blame the staff and you definitely shouldn’t be trying to excuse away your actions), then comped our order (which we didn’t ask for, but we’re thankful for), and then left me with a plate of raw food and walked away. Didn’t even ask to remake the food. It was apparent from our conversation that she was in the kitchen when my food was being remade the first time. From her actions, it felt like she had intentionally made my food incorrectly and was prepared for a “fight”.
All I am asking for is that a restaurant that claims to be inclusive to food sensitivities have a little more customer service sensitivity when THEY incorrectly make a meal, twice.
This manager needs training ASAP. It was a terrible experience and her staff needs a stronger leader. We will not be returning to Toast anytime in the near or distant future. This experience just confirmed our previous apprehension and left us with a very...
Read moreAs a regular customer to this location, I've gotten to know and appreciate the staff, their dedication to food quality, safety protocols, and the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the manager, Sandy, takes the time to interact with guests and ensure customer satisfaction.
A heartwarming experience happened yesterday and was worthy of a glowing review. I had family in town for a few days last week...One is battling cancer, and another is under the age of 2 - I knew the tot would make a mess and the other was concerned with minimizing risk at this delicate time. I called the Indian Land location the day prior to our visit and spoke directly with Sandy. Asked her to please prepare the front corner table which was the most safe and socially distant from other diners so my relatives would be able to comfortably enjoy the meal, and the child would not be a distraction to others. I also inquired as to whether there would be the insanely perfect quiche available over the weekend. My timing was perfect; they were just getting ready to make it fresh, so I asked if they could possibly consider a western quiche special if they had the ingredients on hand.
We arrived within moments of their opening time, and our table was ready with a high chair in place, in the "semi-private" corner by the windows. Walked in and were welcomed by the specials board; "Western Quiche" was on it! Sandy promptly came over to say hello and everyone was anticipating the breakfast offerings. Five people, $75 (including a Bloody Mary), delicious fresh squeezed orange juice, and portions that left us full almost all day. I received text messages from all of them regarding how thankful they were that I chose that restaurant as they left to drive back home, and how they look ever so forward to visiting that particular spot again. As we left, within seconds, one young man approached with a broom and dustpan, another staffer finished clearing what few items remained at the table, and Sandy thanked us for coming in and expressed how nice it was to meet everyone.
Please support this Famous Toastery location. There are others closer to where I live but they pale in comparison; one is a corporate store and doesn't hold a candle to this perfectly run franchise and staff. Thank you for everything. We never felt unsafe, crowded, rushed, or anything else. Flawless service from...
Read moreI placed my order at 10:25 AM through Postmates, and got a confirmation that it would be ready by 10:45 AM. I showed up at the specified time, however the Hostess informed me that it wasn't ready yet. She came back out a few minutes later and asked if my order was for "Mike". I informed her that it was not, and showed her the confirmation of my order. Apparently the Postmates sensor that had been going off next to the register was not being monitored, and they never started my order. I had to be home at 11 AM for an important meeting (I live less than a mile away), so I was a little worried about the time, but had already paid for the food, so there wasn't much I could do. I informed the manager of the situation, and she ensured that they prioritized the order. The food came out in a reasonable time frame, after the fact that they never noticed my order, but they forgot an item and did not include syrup, which is confusing, since I ordered pancakes. I also ordered a chicken caesar wrap, but when I got home it was more like chicken caesar soup, as the bottom of the container was filled with dressing. When I picked it up, the dressing just gushed out and the wrap was soggy, so needless to say, it was disgusting and I threw it in the trash. I have worked in the hospitality industry before, so I understand that things like this happen, and I am giving them two stars, as I felt that the manager did everything in her power to make it right, but the wrap was inedible. I had an issue with their service a while back, but wanted to give them another shot, as the other Famous Toastery spots around Charlotte are great. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. This location has lost my business and will not see another dollar from me, would...
