Decided to meet up with some friends today for a holiday breakfast. Had not yet been to this location of Famous Toastery and felt that it would be a good time to give it a try!
I arrived to the restaurant before everyone else and could tell that it was a busy morning. I went inside to put my place in line at the hostess stand and noticed that around 6 tables or so in a corner near the door were empty and labeled as a waiting area. The dining room appeared well staffed, but regardless something to note since a decent share of the seating space inside is not being used at all.
The menus that are given are very difficult to read and confusing at times as to what is included with the menu items. I decided to order a bagel sandwich with egg over medium, and noticed that for the section I was ordering from, there was a choice of potatoes, grits, or fruit as a side. I chose the potatoes.
Upon receiving my sandwich and potatoes I was a little disappointed to see that my egg was very much over easy, erring on the side of underdone, but chose to carry on because I do not mind over easy eggs, but should still be noted as a mistake. The sandwich and potatoes were otherwise tasty albeit a bit pricey with the sandwich being $6.90 plus $0.70 for a bagel.
When we received the bill I noticed that there was an additional $4 charge for the potatoes that I had ordered with my sandwich. When I asked our waitress about the charge she stated that she should have mentioned that the sandwiches do not actually include a side item despite being in a section of the menu that has them listed as a part of the meal. I was fine with a $8 sandwich that came with some home fries. But ended up paying $12 instead. Not the end of the world but a bit silly that the menu is apparently so difficult to decipher.
Overall my experience was not as good as I had hoped. Service was not great with no refills given and poor checking of plates before they were sent to the table. The prices are a bit hard to justify given that they are hardly better quality than what can be had elsewhere. The menu discrepancies are a bit disappointing and it is apparent that this is a known issue with no plans to make a change.
Considering that I do not go out to breakfast often, it is safe to say that I will not be returning nor recommending this Famous Toastery location. Unfortunate to have another disappointing restaurant in the...
Read moreI walked in and waited patiently in line behind two patrons for my to go order. They were served and I was ignored. A family that came in after me and were greeted and served while I was still in plain view of two hostesses while still being ignored. I literally had to shout “CAN I PLEASE PICK UP MY FOOD” for anyone to bother addressing me. The hostess who rang my order recoiled from my hand as I reached for the receipt. It is not only rude but very dehumanizing to be treated this way especially being that this was my first visit to this location. I will never be back. The food was not even worth the wait it was bland and cold. Before the manager makes an excuse that they were busy the restaurant was half empty. If you are wondering yes I am and yes they were.
Editing my review to address the poor response from “Jason” the restaurant manager. “I’m sorry you felt that way” and “I’m sorry IF we made a mistake” is a terrible way to start an apology and shift blame. When I called the restaurant to try and resolve the issue civilly I also received apathy and empty platitudes without addressing the core issue. I did not scream at the hostess but I did raise my voice ONE TIME to get their attention since they were both acting like I was invisible and never greeted me while I standing only a few feet away. I was not “screaming” or acting belligerent like you are incorrectly assuming. When is it ever acceptable to ignore customers and serve other people that were in line AFTER me? I saw three to go orders when I walked in not six, one of which was my order. If I arrived before my scheduled pick up time (I didn’t) my food should not have been cold. How would the hostess know what order was mine when she never asked for my name before she walked away? If your staff is so busy Jason, maybe you should be up front helping with orders instead of writing passive aggressive responses to your...
Read moreI’ve always enjoyed Famous Toastery and have been a regular customer, consistently ordering the strawberry stuffed French toast. Typically, my experience has been great, with my food arriving in a reasonable time and the extra strawberry cream cheese provided without charge.
However, during my recent visit, I encountered a disappointing situation. When my order arrived, I noticed a hair on the strawberries. I politely informed the server, who was kind and immediately took the plate back to have a new one made. Before handing my plate back, I discreetly placed a small hole in one of the slices to ensure I wouldn’t be given the same food.
When the “new” plate arrived, I checked my French toast and saw the exact hole I had made earlier, confirming that they had reheated the same slices instead of making a fresh order. Additionally, they had added more cream cheese inside to make it appear freshly prepared. This was incredibly disappointing, as I expect a restaurant to prioritize food safety and customer care.
To make matters worse, although I’ve never been charged for extra strawberry cream cheese before, I was suddenly informed that there is a charge—something that was only brought up after the hair incident. While they waived the fee this time, the timing of this information made it feel more like damage control rather than standard policy.
Unfortunately, this experience has made me question returning. A restaurant should not only appear kind and accommodating on the surface but also uphold integrity behind the scenes. Reheating and re-serving a plate after a contamination issue is unacceptable. I hope Famous Toastery learns from this and ensures all customers receive the care and honesty...
