THAT'S ITALIAN!
Pizzeli's is one of the best (if not the best) Italian restaurant on the Grand Strand. Having said that, I need to get my gripe out of the way right up front. During the height of COVID, Pizzeli's took a very irresponsible attitude to safety precautions and mask-wearing. Because of this, we did not eat here for about two years. Their lack of concern for the health and well-being of their staff and customers was offensive. Now that we are fully vaccinated and boosted, we no longer worry about COVID; therefore this is no longer an issue.
PIZZA - The heart and soul of any Italian restaurant in America - Definitely the heart and soul of Pizzeli's. A good pizza starts with a good crust, and Pizzeli's pizza crust is outstanding - enough body to stand up to a mound of toppings, yet tender and crusty - and baked too perfection with just enough of those little burnt areas on the bottom to yell out "Brick Oven." The sauce is tangy but not bitter, and the toppings are fresh and generous.
PASTA - Spaghetti (that classic Italian favorite) is one of my favorites at Pizzeli's - especially with a big, tender meatball. We also like the Linguini with mussels and the Fettuccini with marinara sauce. And don't forget the Ravioli and Lasagna - large, tender and tasty servings.
OTHER DISHES - The Eggplant Parm and the Hot Italian Sausage & Peppers are spot on. Pizzeli's also offers delicious soups and fresh hot garlic bread.
ATMOSPHERE - Frankly, the dining room itself is much too crowded for my liking; but the the bar is very comfortable. If you can get a seat at the bar, you will be rewarded with efficient service and a friendly communal dining experience.
NOTE: Like so many restaurants these days, Pizzeli's does charge a fee if you pay with a...
Read moreWe ordered cheesesteaks and a large cheese pizza. The cheesesteaks weren't bad but the cheese pizza was completely burnt. We told our waitress and she had us another one made. In the meantime while we were eating, our drinks were refilled once and most of our party needed another refill with our waitress missing. She came back with a second pizza that was once again burnt. We ate it regardless but the flavor was awful and bland, and the pizza was very thin. We politely confronted the waitress about the quality of the pizza and she immediately copped an attitude with us and got defensive. We told her we know it's not her fault but something must be different about the cooks. She once again started giving us an attitude and getting super defensive. Most of our party refused to tip as our pizza was still burnt and not corrected and our service was very poor. Not only was our service poor, but our waitress was very rude and had quite an attitude towards us. As we got to the car we were chased out the door by the waitress as she furiously yelled at us. Very immature and unprofessional... Never going back again and I'm very...
Read moreI've been a patron of this restaurant for decades from the beginning the food was good, the lasagna is great, and the pizza is one of the better in the area, however; this last order just floored me. I had a craving for Eggplant Parmigiana so I ordered the dinner to go with a salad, since I've had their Chicken & Veal Parm before and it was good, what I got this time was 4 long cut breaded-fried pieces of eggplant with 1 thin sandwich slice of mozzarella cheese on the eggplant, on top of angel hair pasta with barely enough sauce to coat the pasta. What really floored me was the price they charged for this. We are talking about Eggplant here, which should have been a decent portion size. When I ordered it I was a little taken back about the price but figured I would be getting a nice meal, boy was I wrong. Maybe this is how they make this dish, or maybe because it is take out either way I would never order this again. When I order anything parmigiana I expect a decent amount of cheese on it, this was not the case here. I will order food from here again, but I will not be ordering this...
