The Star Tavern — Restaurant in South Carolina

Awesome local Tavern. It's my understanding they have live music every night. Their food really stands up to all the positive reviews. This evening was our first time at this establishment. The atmosphere is local-rustic. Loved the wooden walls and booths. The entertainment was a little difficult to see from the booth we were sitting in, but we could definitely hear it. The bar staff that waits the tables was attentive and friendly. Now, the food, fantastic. We ordered the fried mushrooms and onion rings for an appetizer. Let me say that the size of the mushrooms is big, which makes them so good. The caps hold the fryer oil which marinades with the caps to give these mushrooms an awesome burst of flavor when you bite into them. The onion rings were sliced properly, not a thin little ring, but a hefty ring so that the onion to breading ratio is perfect. Both items were made fresh, not brought in frozen on a truck.

I ordered a burger which was well seasoned and served on a toasted Brioche Bun. One of the best burger I had in a long time. The fries were great. Not sure how they cut them, but they were spiral fries and the thickest I've ever had.

My wife got the Wings and had a special request. She asked for the Mild Hot Sauce and Garlic-Parm Sauce be combined and the Wings be rolled in the sauce. Not a problem here. They were made to her liking and actually we both enjoyed them. The Wings are cooked so the outside is crispy, which is what we always look for in a wing.

I know this review is a little long winded, but when I find an establishment that exceeds my expectations, I make sure to explain thoroughly so that, you, the reader, gets a good understanding of the place.

We are locals to the area, and will definitely be back to try other menu items. Keep up...

We’ve been coming to the star tavern for their great food and amazing atmosphere for the past 4 years. We’ve brought family and friends here and everyone has loved it and has begged to come back. However this past time eating here they were completely off point, I’m not sure if kitchen staff has changed or what. Our food came out completely scattered and was not the same quality as the previous times we’ve come here. The wings were dry and barely had any sauce. An order of hush puppies came out completely burnt and literally black, and when they were sent back to the kitchen never returned. The “homemade” Mac and cheese was buttered noodles with shredded cheese sprinkled on. We split our group in 2 tables and the other table that ordered before us wasn’t ever served apatizers when we were already done our meal. You know, the music is great, the food is usually great (just don't order the horrible nachos. chicken strips yes), and the locals are great!

The ONLY problem is, when you walk in the door you can't get a beer!

Whoever is working will go all round the bar, and then walk all around the floor to see if anybody needs another beverage before serving the guy who just walked in...that guy just stands there waving money but they are oblivious. They have blinders on and will not even look at the thirsty guy holding money.

THE NEW GUY WHO WALKS IN SHOULD GET HIS FIRST BEVERAGE BEFORE SERVING EVERYBODY ELSE IN THE TAVERN.

This is common sense.

To keep going on about this, get that guy who just walked in his first beer. Everybody else who has a beverage will understand. Yet this is consistently a problem and...
