Tattooed Moose, Johns Island, SC — Restaurant in South Carolina

We wanted to try the BBQ in SC before we headed north and our last day, after exploring the Charleston Tea Plantation, someone recommended this restaurant to us. It sounded appealing because they fry all of their food in duck fat and we were starving. We looked up their website and realized it was happy hour so we figured we might as well stop by for some duck fat fries to hold us over until we found a BBQ place. The bartender was really great. He knew we were only ordering fries and still came back to check on us several times, which is more than some servers do at restaurants where we’ve actually sat at tables. He also offered to get us refills on our waters and ketchup. You normally don’t get that great of service when drinking water and ordering one thing at the bar so I want to stress how good of a bartender/server he was. The duck fat fries were amazing!! After it’s all said and done, it was cool trying the BBQ, but we really wish we would’ve stayed there to eat dinner! The fries were so good and juicy and crispy. These were the best fries my husband and I have ever tried. I’m going to fantasize about these fries for the rest of my life. On our receipt is says, “Server: Nightbar”. I’m not sure what that means but we were in on 08/07 around 5:30 p.m. The server had tattoos on his arms, a facial piercing (if I recall correctly), and I think curly brown hair (it was hard to see because he was wearing a hat). Anyways, I wish we would’ve gotten his name for the review but hopefully if management sees this they can identify him. We’re coming here first if we ever come back...

Swing and a miss! The fried chicken sandwich was way over cooked! It was literally inedible! My son and i ordered the chicken! He was able to choke in down! I couldn't even cut it with a knife! The pimento cheese and pickled green tomatoes were excellent! Even the bun was better! My family prohibits me to complain about a meal! Certainly the worst meal we have had this week! This place is known for hamburgers! So sad! It is New Year's Day and we were happy to have a place open! The duck fries had similar issues! The meatier fries were perfect but the smaller ones were inedible! Street corn and salad good! Adult beverages were weak pour! Don't bother for the price! Excruciating disappointment! Service was good and ambiance was rustic! They serve pork skins for sides! I think the problem was my chicken was small and precooked! It certainly wasn't cooked to ordered! I did have the waitress and someone else, who looked like a manger quickly ask me how the food was! As i said earlier my family does like me to do that ! I think if the waitress see that the chicken hadn't been touched , it should have been a signed! I was not n the service for 12 years and can eat anything! Great response! Good reason to go to you place! I would say it nice get cheer out and have bad food! Plus you got my money! Let me be clear, none of your stuff really wanted to get into this! The tattoo moose is a classic bar experience throughout my life I’ve been to many bars, but this place did not disappoint when we first got here we had to wait 20 minutes to get our table, and I was honestly feeling a little bit discouraged due to the wait but those thoughts were shut down as soon as we got to the table our waiter was extremely nice and explain the menu if we had any questions when we ordered our appetizer and meals. The appetizer came out so quickly and it was so fresh and warm. I was so surprised. next came out our meals in a matter of minutes after but a good amount of time between the appetizer in the meal we had enough time to finish the fries, but not enough time to sit around being like where’s our meal at? The food was delicious and once we were done, multiple servers came up to make sure our table is cleared so we weren’t having any dirty plates in front of us. our waiter was super nice and I really enjoyed my time at the tattooed moose. I would definitely recommend it to families or even adult adults to go to the bar because it is such a family friendly environment now I wouldn’t say that that for later in the night because it is open until 2 AM but other than that, it is a very nice environment where you can write on the walls and there’s hardly any obscenities upon the wall.
