I think TJs idea of good Mexican food must be taco bell. If that's what you're after, don't come here. If however you're after quite possibly the best AUTHENTIC Mexican food, stop here and then stop again and again as I did. I ate here every day for a week straight and switched it up a bit. The prices for everything were honestly ridiculous. You could spend $20 here, or $100 in Charleston and I promise this meal would top the expensive meal. The asada tacos were my favorite until I tried the torta. For those who don't know, this is basically a Mexican sandwich that is literally the size of the to-go boxes. A heaping portion of steak, cilantro, onions, fried egg, and that secret sauce all piled onto one of the best buns I've ever had. I highly recommend it to anybody who's worked up an appetite and an appreciation for good food. I also love the little market right there because I was able to get some of the same ingredients he uses for myself, so on the days I can't make it out here, I could still try to replicate it at home. Came for birria and was THRILLED. The meat was tender, the edges were crispy, and it was all flavorful! The rice upfront was a little plain (sazon, garlic, etc.) for what I'm used to, but it was definitely still seasoned the right way (at least chicken bullion) to keep me coming back to polish it off. Honestly, a perfect contrast to the more flavorful plate. We also order the al pastor which was good, and loved that it wasn't smothered in pineapple to hide the meat. I had an Al Pastor Tostado and a Carnitas taco. I ordered a burrito Al Pastor to go for my hubs.
The taco and tostado were fantastic - soft taco corn shell and crispy tostado shell.
I liked the crispiness of the tostado best. Both had ample toppings and lots of protein. Very good flavor and heat.
The chef who cooks and serves the food is so nice and friendly ! I will def be back.
