My wife and I visited on our date night on 03-10-25. Living only about three minutes from the restaurant, we didn't even know it existed. We pass by the location numerous times each week; however, I was under the impression that it was medical buildings located in the shopping center and really never gave it a second look. We received a gift card for Christmas and decided to give it a try. This place will become part of our regular rotation for our Monday date nights!
Menu items ordered: (We both ordered off the changing menu, which we have been informed changes daily!)
FOOD: -Appetizer: Hummus Plate (a generous amount of hummus with pita bread and veggies). We were unable to finish it, fearing we would get too full. -My wife ordered their burger of the week, which had a candied bacon jam along with fries. The burger was top-notch and cooked exactly as she ordered. -I ordered a blackened steak pasta dish with gorgonzola cheese and slices of ribeye, along with a side salad. The pasta was amazing and is something I could order again.
SERVICE: Was spot on! Our server, Michelle, did a great job making us feel welcomed and valued, ensuring we were well taken care of.
ATMOSPHERE: I would consider the decor and atmosphere to have a more upscale vibe, but without the stuffiness that can accompany some upscale restaurants. This means it would make for a great place to have a secluded and intimate date night or a place I wouldn't mind taking my kids to as well. The interior is decorated in a way that makes me think of an upscale Havana/Cuban eatery. There is outdoor seating on a patio that is equally nicely furnished, which will be pleasant in warmer weather.
DRINKS: My wife ordered two cocktails: a Paloma and a Peach Cosmo, both of which she thoroughly enjoyed (the Peach Cosmo was more to her taste). Both drinks were mixed well, and the bartender didn't skimp on the alcohol. I ordered an IPA (generally my go-to). They had Sumter Talons IPA on tap, which I had never had before but enjoyed. Also, this has to be said and made known: they have a menu item called a "Holla High Five." For $5, you get a shot of Willet Old Bardstown Bourbon AND a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer (PBR). That has to be the absolute best deal in town!
COST: I would consider the prices to be in line with most other restaurants in the area and believe them to actually be far less than similar establishments. The caliber of food and service, I believe, demands a higher price point, but I'm pleased with what they are charging, as it means we can eat there more often. :)
Our Bill: Holla High Five: $5 Sumter Talons IPA: $6 Paloma: $12 Peach Cosmo: $12 Hummus Plate: $16 Burger of the Week/Fries: $20 Blackened Steak Pasta/Salad: $28 Total: $109.36 after tax
FINAL THOUGHTS: I wish I had known this place existed years ago. We have lived on this side of town for about three years now and could have enjoyed this restaurant even more. We WILL be visiting again. I highly encourage you to check this place out if you...
Read moreExcellent food, service, and ambiance. We tried lunch during its first offering (they previously only served dinner), and--while I wish there were a bit broader menu--the staff told us they were still experimenting with the choices. We are picky and asked for numerous modifications to our meal (no X, Y, Z; add J instead of K) which were accommodated and turned out wonderfully. The outdoor patio was simply stunning--amazing that they created such a wonderful vibe within a space between buildings in a strip mall. The service was exemplary, and our servers Adam and Adrian were very attentive. The manager stopped by twice to check in and was very affable. The desserts were fantastic. I hope they will expand the lunch menu with a few more entrees and sides so that we can visit often. We are also looking forward to going for dinner, as the patio and entertainment options seem like they will be enjoyable. Highly recommended. UPDATE: This establishment, sadly, no longer serves lunch. It had provided a nice escape into their well-appointed outdoor patio despite the restaurant being located on a large parking lot. As we sat next door dining, longing for our prior experience at Tavern, we saw multiple couples try to enter Tavern only to leave disappointed at the fact the restaurant no longer serves midday. Most walked over next door to dine, demonstrating a loss for one business as a gain to another. I certainly hope Tavern will reopen for lunch now that the weather is getting warm enough to dine...
Read moreI had my hopes up for a great experience. My wife and I arrived at 5pm. The hostess stated she can give us a table, but we would need to leave by 7pm. This to me is not a good foot forward as to give an ultimatum. One could say sure, but it depends on how fast you can serve me. My wife ordered the Alabama ribs with fried shrimp and I ordered a NY sirloin. The waitress was great and we were served shortly afterwards. My NY sirloin was cooked properly (definitely a plus), although it was a small portion for the $30 charge. I’ve had larger portions for less at other restaurants. This is where it went downhill as my wife’s meal was disappointing. The ribs were very overcooked and hard, except for the 1 rib, which was very fatty. The shrimp also was overcooked (hard) and the oil in which it was fried in was old. Very disappointed for $25. At this point we shared my small steak, as she couldn’t eat hers. A positive was the French fries were good. I had high hopes for a good meal, but were left disappointed. My wife and I aren’t the type to make a big deal there, but even if the meal was refunded it wouldn’t make a difference. Sadly, a cook can make or break a restaurant, along with...
