Coming from someone who’s worked as a pastry chef in downtown Greenville for the past year, go here. Drop everything, grab your loved ones, favorite stuffed animal, ring lights and get over to this day-making bakery. First a HUGE shoutout to the woman partnered with them that makes the macarons, they have the perfect texture, airiness, and that iconic macaron flavor in the shells that you can’t find just anywhere. The Mad Batter Macaron was the top of my flavor ranking. The Oreo Brownie - man oh man, this is the first brownie I have ever had that doesn’t immediately oversaturate my palette. The brownie is light and soft, but still full of flavor that just melts in your mouth. The icing looks tall, but thats just from how well whipped it is! It’s not too sweet, yet still fluffy, creamy and when paired with the brownie; 100% delivers that Oreo flavor. If you liked the fluffy oreo’s that came out a few years ago, you’ll forget all about them when you try this. The Funfetti Cupcake was honestly a surprise underdog of my purchase. I don’t know how they made the cake so light and fluffy while maintaining its structural integrity. The flavor matches that kind of sweet, vanilla flavor you’d find at a grocery store BUT! It’s not overly sweet! Definitely a delicious grab for any age or occasion.
Now, I hobbled out of my car all injured and excited for what I was really headed over there for: their sugar coated, berry filled, airy, fluffy delicious looking Cream Buns. And man, did they deliver. Professionally, dude, you have got to try this. The pastry itself is like a fluffy mix between cake, pate â choux, and a doughnut. The pastry is strong enough to hold all the weight of the filling, yet still melts in your mouth. The pastry cream is so good it makes me want to make 137 pancakes, put them all in a pile, and literally jump for joy on top of them. It has an iconic, delicious flavor profile that I know you already love; yet I must leave something for you to discover yourself!
Wether you’ve lived in/around Greenville your entire life, just passing through, or even got stranded at GSP on a cancelled flight; this is a bakery WORTH EVERY CENT of your hard earned money. For they are working just as hard to deliver some of the best desserts and baked goods I’ve found at a retail location anywhere even close to here, and I’ve been here for over 15 years.
Oh! One last thing, the owner actually did research on their coffee beans and roast before even opening the storefront. If you care about your brew at all, find a way to put this shop in your morning routine. Dedicatedly opening at 7am to help start your day, closing at 7pm (or until they sell out) to get your after dinner sweets in; Mad Batter Bakery is something to take note of in the Greenville area. I will 100% be returning, probably on a...
Read moreI stopped by this afternoon to grab some treats on my way home. This was my first experience at The Mad Batter and even though the interior was cute, and the customer service was perfectly fine, the desserts were god awful.
Now I do understand that it was later in the afternoon when I showed up and that the cases were heavily picked over, but I was shocked at the quality of the desserts that I was given. Not to mention, I did not receive all of the desserts that I asked for and I did not realize this until after I got home. I’m sure that I paid for them, though.
The petit fours that I received were rock hard. The outer shell was extremely thick and the cake inside was dry, layered with frosting that tasted like chemicals.
I received what I can only assume was a lemon cheesecake. I didn’t see a sign with it, but I got it anyway because my wife said that it looked pretty. Upon trying to eat it, we knew that there was a problem when it didn’t want to come off of the board it was frosted onto. The “frosting” on the bottom tasted like chemicals and was pasty, while the cheesecake was very obviously days old. The cream cheese had solidified almost halfway through the dessert, and the swirl of frosting on top had hardened. We threw it away.
Then there was this peanut butter and chocolate layered dessert that I believe had Reese’s in the name. It too was nice to look at, but the cake was so dry that it just crumbled. It literally had the texture of sand. The peanut butter part was just okay, but the chocolate frosting on top was extremely gritty and overwhelmingly sweet. We threw it out as well.
Last was a layered dessert that also did not have a sign on it, but it looked nice enough. It was triple layered, and had what I can only describe as an off orange/citrus flavor to it. It had the consistency of cheesecake if it was created using expired dairy. It was almost curdled in texture and the flavor was very off putting. I have never spit out cake before, but the three of us that were trying it, spit it out.
Needless to say, everything went into the trash and there was not a single item that I purchased that was consumed in its entirety. I will not spend another dime at this...
Read moreWe have been looking for a new dessert and bakery spot and boom we found it! From the time we walked in the door, we were impressed with everything from their selection to the awesome Alice in Wonderland decorations throughout the store. I am not a huge dessert person but this place was so good, we went back the next day to get more! The chocolate chip cookie and peanut butter cookie were soft and very flavorful! The Reese's cup cupcake was amazing. It was very rich but not overwhelming to where it made your stomach hurt. It was just right. Out of everything that we got though, the mango passion fruit cupcake exceeded all expectations. From the softness of the cupcake batter to the deliciousness of the mango and passion fruit, this is my favorite cupcake I think I have ever had. I don't even know if you would call it icing on top because the texture and flavor is perfect. I am not an icing guy but there wasn't any left in the box when I was done. The girl working at the counter was very nice and very knowledgeable about all their desserts. She patiently explained everything that was in there because we kept asking questions lol. It was a really fun experience and if you want really good dessert after dinner you have to give the Mad Batter...
