My daughter, Olivia & I found this lovely restaurant around the corner after her doctors appointment today. I ordered the special, Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes & gravy, & Mac & Cheese : My daughter, Olivia, ordered the 3 meat dinner with fried chicken, ribs, & brisket sides: mac & cheese, mashed potatoes & gravy, she also added a side of cabbage. We had rolls and pop. Olivia also ordered her a slice of sweet potato pie cheesecake to bring home. I thought Olivia was going to float out of her seat she enjoyed her meal so much! 👩‍🍳🎉❤ She graduated from Escoffier Culinary Arts School back in the Spring Class of 2021 and is a food connoisseur. If she likes a restaurants food we are not used to having, believe me, that restaurants food is delicious. My food was delicious to me also, but I would do the mashed potatoes a little differently. A little dry for me...but that doesn't mean I do not give the restaurant 5 stars! There have to be other things besides food. Customer Service...How you greet and treat your customers....that is if you want them to come back....I highly enjoyed my experience with everyone we came in contact working at the restaurant and they alone make me want to go back! We love the attitude and the family feeling in the restaurant. We also got take out to bring home to my husband. He said it was very good. He would change the cornbread, it was little dry, and the Salisbury steak needed more onion in it. I can't wait to come back and try something different! I am so glad we found your place today! We will all come back as soon as possible and I am sharing you restaurant on my Facebook & Instagram page to all my friends so they will come visit you also.... The Johnson family... David,...

Best southern food outside of the actual southern U.S., very comparable to the best southern food anywhere (based on living down south 10+ years).

Friendly staff, great variety of flavorful foods at very reasonable prices.

Late lunch/early dinner for four. Food came out very quickly and it was all served hot.

Combos: Catfish, fried chicken, ribs, and chicken and waffles.

Sides: Mac and cheese, coleslaw, baked beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, greens, candied yams.

Catfish: breaded just right, there is a nice light crunch to every bite. Fish was cleaned perfectly, best catfish I’ve had.

Fried chicken: terrific breading, a really nice crunch without the breading overriding the chicken itself. No greasiness, just yummy flavor.

Ribs: redefined “fall off the bone” ribs for me, a light touch and it came right off. Many places claim “fall off the bone”, Sumthin’ Good Soul Food truly delivers. Sauce on the ribs was unlike other sauces I’ve had before, very tasty and definitely homemade; it had notes similar to other sauces but stood out as a unique great taste.

Chicken and waffles: another success with chicken by this great restaurant. The breading seemed different than the fried chicken and was ideal for the pairing with waffles.

Sides: all received rave reviews from my family. Most notable was the baked beans (sweet and savory awesomeness). Candied yams stood out, they clearly are freshly made using a cherished recipe.

Parking appeared to be limited to the front of the building or at another...

My in-laws took me to this restaurant last week, and I was a bit apprehensive at first, because we dined in, and the atmosphere (building, lighting, seating, etc) was not as tidy or up to date. I do know, however, that often times a good restaurant starts out this way. Everyone has to get a start somewhere.

I ordered ribs, candied yams, mac n cheese, and cornbread. My MIL had the meatloaf, and my DIL had fried chicken. They both loved their food. Biting into those ribs was like a trip straight to meat heaven! They were smoking, yet appley! The texture and quality was perfect! Not too much fatty meat, and the meat fell off the bone! Lawdy! The mac n cheese was thicc and hearty, but so smooth. The candied yams were a touch too sweet for me, but I’m a little odd when it comes to sugar…they were cooked perfectly and tasted fresh! The cornbread….shut your mouth. It was savory and moist! I will absolutely return to this restaurant. I’m from the Charlotte area, so I’ve had some challenges finding damn good food around here, but this place offers food so good it makes ya wanna smack yo Mama! Do not second guess or underestimate this soul food haven. Your loss if ya do. Their food is absolutely worth...

The people were great, the food was just ok, and the atmosphere was not all that inviting. We do highly recommend the Reese's peanut butter cake! I had the pulled pork sandwich, which tasted good, but was texturally more like a Sloppy Joe sandwich than pulled pork. The coleslaw was very good, which is not something I often say. My husband had the Chunky Butt sandwich, which he said was just barely warm and had peppers and onions in it, which he wasn't expecting. My mom had ribs, which she enjoyed. She didn't like the side of cabbage she got, but I tried it and thought it was good. My dad had the Tuesday special of meatloaf (not pictured), which he said had a good flavor, but was kind of tough. It was very slow when we went, but we thought perhaps some things would be better when they're busier and there is more turnover of products in the kitchen. If nothing else, we'll go back for dessert!
