I found this location while using the Yelp app on my phone, while searching for steakhouses in the area I was in, Daytona Beach. I dined on a Tuesday evening. When I arrived at 7:30 PM there was literally one spot left. The entrance to this location is a little weird it seems like you come in to the middle of the restaurant. You don't actually but it feels like it when you first come in. After wandering in and around slightly I was actually greeted by a woman who asked me if I was dining alone and then proceeded to take me to the bar. You can definitely tell this place is a little older judging by the decor, and the menus. It feels typical Southern family, there is even a case behind the bar filled with model cars. There are a couple of TVs scattered throughout the small building, and I was unable to detect any semblance of wireless.
They only have four beers on tap, Amber Bock, Bud Light, Miller Lite, and Michelob Ultra. They do have a few assorted beer bottles showcased on the back of the bar for ordering purposes as well. I was craving a filet so I ordered one medium rare with a baked potato. I passed on the salad bar which was really just iceberg lettuce and a couple of veggies. I instead opted for mushrooms and onions to accompany the steak. It didn't take too long to arrive. I was brought out three separate plates one plate contained the baked potato, another housed some butter, sour cream, and a piece of toast. The steak was on a plate by itself, and by plate I mean one of those types that has a metal insert on the inside with the plastic on the outside, sort of an oval deal. Next to the steak in a medium-sized bowl, was a mound of sautéed onions and mushrooms that looked and tasted delicious. I dumped that sucker right on the plate, peppered them up and dug in. The baked potato was equally as good. Steak was perfectly prepared as medium rare and had a decent flavor. The cut was pretty good itself with no discernible gristle. I was actually a little blown away by the toast. I must confess I always try everything on the plate just for reviewing purposes and personal curiosity, and when I took my first bite I was kind of taken aback. I know it's simple, but this toast had an exceptional buttery garlicky flavor and it was only actually toasted on one side which at first I thought was a little weird until I took another bite and then discovered it was kind of cool. It sort of felt a little bit like having some fresh baked bread with the soft hot inside, on the outside.
Pricing of this location is relatively average for this type of meal coming in around 25 bucks for the meal and a beer. The TV screen in front of me had on the local 24 hour news station with close captioning that was absolutely horrible. In fact, I actually could understand them better by reading their lips. It was pretty much the only entertainment I had, as I dined alone at the bar for a good chunk of my meal. I was checked on by several staff along the meal which was quite nice.
Overall this is a pretty decent place for a family run steakhouse that's really small. I wasn't disappointed with really anything truly, other than the fact that I could have used a few more mushrooms to accompany the sautéed onions, so I'll definitely dine at this establishment again when I'm back in town. Oh I almost forgot they don't take American Express just...
Read moreAs a Chef of 44 yrs I am not a critic or complainer because I know the business and the industry situations. I "LOVE" steak and was looking forward to the t-bone after ordering I was told by my server ("Gary" nice guy very personable with his guest and service he's very all over the place) that they had no more t-bones ok cool I understand busy mothers day no problem so I ordered a New York Strip and my fiance ordered Prime rib. Well we sat there and our table next to us was seated a party of 4. They were serviced by another young man who took there order promptly and served them there drinks and salad, mean while we didn't get our salads from Gary until I ask about it and then we were served our salads as our meals came out. Gary our server did comp my second beer !...ok now we are about finish and Gary brings over a peach cobbler for my fiances (with no ice cream on top, no ala mode) and then proceeds to serve 8 other guest including the table next to us with peach cobbler ala mode!....I found this to be unacceptable and odd (oh we are African American the only ones in the restaurant at that time) but I don't want to use race I just want to bring awareness to how it would be if the service was reversed. We will go back because the food was good and I want to believe the times we are living in are not as political as it seems. Your food and...
Read moreWILL NEVER BE BACK!EVER! Our waitress tried and the other waitress even warned customers after us. I cannot say it was the worst prime rib I ever had, only because I'm not sure it was prime rib! It would be the worst cut of meat I ever ordered in a restaurant. It was tough, not melt in your mouth like medium rare should be. And instant mashed potatoes? Really? At least the server warned us on that. My knife would barely cut the meat and the gravy came out of a can.....cheap can. Also with no AU Jus. So, to top it off. When you go into the restroom, by the way be careful. It's so greasy on the floor it was hard to standstill, I overheard a conversation between server and kitchen. She was trying to tell him customers were complaining but he had no interest. As we left and did not eat but paid for the beverages,Can t hurt a bottle, the kitchen dude was outside playing games with his buddy. At one time this may have been the best prime rib in Daytona beach, I respect my dog too much to feed it to him. This place should not be open. Any chain restaurant has better prime rib. And this was our anniversary. Thanks for the memory! Update. My review was taken off Facebook. Tried calling the place to discuss this with the owner and they hung up on me. Great customer...
