New name. Same authentic old country food.
Usually, one of my qualifications of authenticity is the staff being from the country the food they are selling is from. This restaurant has all Korean staff. First plus. Next, the food has to be similar, if not authentic to the country itās from. This restaurant has food that is nearly identical to that found in Korea (Iāve lived there a couple years and ate tons of different dishes). Second plus. Finally, despite being in the USA, I want to feel that Iāve stepped into the country Iām eating the food from. This restaurant is set in a building that looks like it once was an Italian restaurant. Ok, so itās not perfect. Iām rating it 5 stars for being the ONLY true Korean restaurant in Daytona Beach. If you want Korean style and service, authentic food, and love that itās now local, you should eat here. Iāve been waiting a long time and even contemplated opening my own restaurant to get the quality of food Iād expect (and that this place has). Korean food is more than ramen and fish. We had the Yook Gae Jang and Sam Gyeop Sal, both very difficult to find in the US. I almost died and went to heaven. Just like in Korea, the Aah Ji Maa (married woman) stayed at our table and helped up cook it, though I was fully capable. (I really like that I woke up the next morning and smelled Korean again.) I forgot pictures, but next time I go in, youāll get some. Priced at normal American prices, you find it affordable. (In Korea, the prices would have been less) There is a large population of #Korean students at #ERAU and Iām sure they would love to know about this place, if they donāt already know. Their least busy times are in the evening. They are pretty steady for lunch through mid afternoon. Because Korean food takes so much time to prepare (and theirs is prepared fresh daily) they can tend to run out of food if the place becomes too busy, so donāt worry if you can get the dish you want. The more business they have, however, the more likely they will be able to provide more dishes, because they can hire more staff to prepare the food the night prior. Itās a win for the community! Bottom line, this restaurant is a must-have in our community and has the most authentic food Iāve eaten since I left Korea 15 years ago. You have to try it, even once. Tell them...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was the worst experience I have had in a restaurant. I felt that my value as a customer was During my visit, a lady that I assume was the manager was greeting every table other than ours. I was not a fan of the rice cake and asked the server if we could get something else to off set the cost for the restaurant because Iām trying to be a conscientious consumer. I was going to order the beef brisket which is a higher price item. The server stated that this was ok and brought the brisket out. When the bill came I pointed out the rice cake was on the bill and the server stated that her manager said that I ordered it so they could not take it off.The server did not share this info previously and had no problem adding an extra order of beef brisket. The server stated that she was under the impression that this would not be a problem she went on to say that only the manager/owner could address my bill but they had left for the night although I just saw her chatting it up with a white couple asking them to visit more and if they were local and generally displaying good customer service behaviors. I hate to think this way but looking around me I felt that as a black person I was not valued or welcomed in this establishment and as someone visiting from another state this cast a negative shadow on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOk, the night started out great. We ordered the seafood pancake as an appetizer and it was very good. Then we ordered one short ribs bbq and one ribeye bbq. I personally enjoyed the short ribs better. The menu said 10oz of meat. We got nothing close to 10oz on either order. We didnāt complain, because the food tasted good. It was all going ok till this happened. They close at 10pm. We got there at 7:45. Around 8:40, when we werenāt even half way done with our food, the waitress comes with our check!!! She says the owners, whoāve been singing LOUD karaoke the whole time, asked her to give us the check because she leaves at 9pm. We kindly turned it down. First, we werenāt ready to leave because we WERE STILL EATING!!! Second, we thought we might get dessert, which we did. We got the green tea and the red beans ice cream. I preferred the later. My husband ordered some hot tea. The hot tea came and it was ice cold. We let the waitress know, all she said was, well we didnāt charge you for it. Didnāt offer us new tea or nothing. Well, even though I did enjoy the food, the whole evening felt like we werenāt welcomed and they couldnāt wait to kick us out. Will I GO back, maybe. Will I RUSH...
