I rarely will post about a bad experience in a restaurant because we worked in the business and understand it could just be a bad day... I have to share a horrible experience with Thai Town in South Elgin. We wanted to try something new and trust me we will not go that route again. Called the order in for pick up and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes, went it took another 35 minutes waiting. We ordered 2 pad Thai meals, sesame chicken meal and an order of calamari. While I was there the kids wanted the soda with the tapioca( which I thought would be maybe a few dollars 5.00 a piece). I was handed a tiny bag and pulled up a screen to tip her 9.00 or more on the meal I was picking up, they would deliver for 6.00. We are all for tipping but really... I did tip 3.00 like a fool.. The drinks the kids threw out because they said it tasted like bleach. Charged 9.95 we were given literally 8 calamari. They told my son when he questioned why it was so small that calamari is expensive??? We came home and I was just so disgusted and showed my husband so he called the owner got on the phone and he explained to her that he wanted half our money back because it was so bad. She said bring it all back and we said fine we will be right there ( it was terrible). The son called before we left screaming "How dare you talk to my mother that way and my husband said I was very nice to your mother but I am very very dissatisfied with your service and food. The son said keep the food and fight your bank, I will not give you back your money!!! They said they have to feed their family and could not give a refund to us and my husband said he was simply trying to feed his family and it was unacceptable food and service. The 8 calamari were literately rubber bands dipped in breading served with a watered down sweet and sour sauce..... Longest post I have ever written... Wish I would have read the Yelp and Google Reviews First!!!! Pictures will not post but will upload if I can so you can decide...
Read moreThis place was one of the WORST Thai places I have ever eaten for the first time! I ordered Basil Fried Rice with Jumbo Shrimp for a whopping $18.69!!! First of all, the rice was soaked in some sort of oil when I opened the container I wanted to throw up. The rice was so damn soggy and stuck together like mashed potatoes. There was no taste or flavor, just wet, tasteless, soggy rice in some strange oil!! Wtf happened to the damn flavor? I specifically and very carefully explained to the non-English speaking order taker over the telephone how to prepare my dish. I asked her to repeat it back to me twice! PLEASE 🙏🏽 DO NOT waste your money, like I did at this place or you will be so sadly disappointed. I am so pissed off that I wasted my hard-earned money on this hole-in-a-wall establishment! Never again will I ever return! Damn! I should have canceled my order when I walked in the door and there were no customers in the restaurant nor did I smell the aroma of good-smelling food being prepared. Run, fast from this place! Save...
Read moreFamily run restaurant- good lunch specials. Exceptionally sweet people, and the food is excellent. Reasonable prices, although dinner is a pricier compared to the lunch deals, which are some of the best options in the area. These people work hard to make their business succeed- carving carrots at night to use as garnishes the next day. They've moved around a lot, and their last location wasn't the best, but the place is clean, the decor cozy, the atmosphere laid back, and the food delicious. I've been patronizing them for years, and hope they can find the right model to succeed. Really a gem for the area, in my opinion. The only bad experiences I've had have been service from new employees. Normally if the proprietor is around- and she usually is- you get exceptional service and the most welcoming and gracious treatment. So glad they opened again after changing leases. The nightclub thing just wasn't working for them, but they know how to make a delicious Thai...
