I've always enjoyed Hoss's the many, many times I've been there. But the last visit may have been my last ever. It was one of the least busy days I've seen there. It all started by ordering a RARE steak with A1 steak sauce baked potato butter and sour cream. After going through salad bar sitting down to the first bite of salad, I unfortunately got a long dark Hair in my mouth, (I have short gray hair, could have came from a customer using the salad bar, not holding this against the restaurant). But after removing hair by spitting out mouthful of un- chewed salad onto napkin and not being able to eat anymore of my salad. Server never questioned or asked if I even needed another napkin. Server was not attentive, never even asked if steak/meal was prepared ok. (which it wasn't) a RARE temperature ordered steak was more WELL DONE almost burnt with a red RARE tag in the most burt part of the steak. No A1 and no sour cream But server didn't check and I ate it anyway, only because I would never send food back to kitchen. Especially if it was much over done. Empty iced tea drink glasses since meal was delivered.(meals delivered not by server, I asked for refill at that time A1 and sour cream but I was told that my server would be right over to ask her.) The server had 2 other tables besides ours and they were not being attended to either. After a few minutes I got up from the table to ask another server to ask our server to please bring our table 2 iced tea refills. After about a minute or two our server came to the table ( no refills) to ask if everything was "still ok" ?? She never came to ask if it was ok in the first place. I asked for 2 refills of ice tea, A1 and sour cream. After a few more minutes maybe 2 or 3, our server did bring 2 refills, sour cream but no A1. Server never cleared finished soup bowls, salad plates, and finished meal plates even while we had our dessert. I left the server a tip. I always do. Even though this server did not deserve it. Service always has been fine in the past. Overdone steak and bad service made this the worst dining experience from...
Read moreThey are very proud of the fact that they still have their salad bar open, but they do not enforce their own protocols that are in place to ensure that your visit is safe.
We went tonight in Greensburg and they were not requiring people to wear masks when going up to the salad bar.
Sure the hostess told us as we were being seated that they "ask" that everyone wear gloves and masks up to the salad bar. But moments after we were seated, we could see that this was not being enforced as a family of 3 walked in and was seated without the masks posted as being required on their front door.
Shortly thereafter, they were all up at the salad bar while the staff watched.
When I asked the manager on duty about this she told me that they didn't require people to wear masks because it violated hippa. I'm sure plenty of people have their opinions on this, but I don't think this is true...especially you can enforce it with your employees, but not your guests. When my wife asked about this further, the manager stated VERY CLEARLY that this was corporate policy.
We were also told that if she turned away people without masks, that she wouldn't have any customers... This was also clearly untrue as this was dinner time on Sunday and only one family in the entire restaurant lacked masks. Meaning that, if she enforced it, she would just have one less maskless family in a relatively busy restaurant full of mask wearing patrons.
Look, I get it. I see people not wearing masks out in public places all the time... While I generally find it annoying; I've never felt compelled to complain about it. The different here is that you have a high risk feature such as a salad bar and you don't follow through with the proper safety protocols. And then on top of that you've posted all over social media about how safe you are. Frankly it's irresponsible to not follow through with mask policies in...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible service. We go to Hoss’s in Murrysville quite often. We love it and we love supporting them. We completely understand short staffing and we respect those that work during this issue. But when the waitress is literally at another table complaining/flirting/standing there and not moving it is a completely different problem. Our table had dishes piled high with dishes from the salad bar. Our drinks were NEVER even offered to be refilled. When I had asked the hostess to grab our waitress for refills, she had to walk past the table where she was literally just standing at at least 5 times. When she came over we told her we just wanted our bill. She just acted so smug and didn’t even care, maybe that’s how she likes to be treated when she goes out. The manager was even worse! She came out and said that she’s a manager at the Murrysville location and they are really fantastic if we ever wanted to visit there. Well we were at the Greensburg location, so that really was unprofessional. She didn’t even take the drinks off. She gave us a $5 off $30 coupon. And the managers excuse was short staffed and hectic. Well when you visibly watch the waitress stand there talking/flirting with another table the whole time, it’s not a very good excuse. We don’t look for hand outs, but in this case, the manager really did not handle this...
