Stepping into Big Bad Breakfast in South Pittsburg, TN, provided an inviting start to my morning with its cozy ambiance and promising menu. The biscuit and gravy beckoned with its home-style charm, and surely enough, it did not disappoint. Each bite of the fluffy biscuit drenched in rich, creamy gravy brought forth delightful bursts of savory sausage, generous in portion and perfectly spiced. The cat head chicken biscuit was another charming southern fixture on the table. Freshly cooked, the chicken exuded a mouth-watering aroma, with seasoning that demonstrated an adept touch—neither overpowering nor an afterthought, but just right to enhance the succulent flavors. However, the bacon, though flavorful, lost its appeal amidst an unnecessary pool of grease. It seemed a slight oversight in an otherwise delightful meal, as a little attention to draining could have made a remarkable difference. The restaurant's connection to the lodge store and museum rendered the dining experience not just a meal but an enriching event. This melding of culture and cuisine added a quaint charm, rounding off the visit with quaint Southern hospitality. Despite the hiccup with the bacon, I left with a full belly and the contentment of having dined in a space that felt more like a community cornerstone than a mere restaurant.

Inconsistent Biscuits Big Bad Breakfast sits in the same building as the Lodge Cast Iron Museum and Store, the latter of which you can browse while waiting for a table if needed. Loved the atmosphere, a clean warehouse kind of feel. Bee Gees, Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond music playing (pro? con? you decide!). Loved the service: fast & friendly. Food? Well... good but not great. I had the Mother of All Biscuits / Dirty Bird, complete with fried chicken, peppered bacon, and hot honey, the kind of buscuit you have to eat with a knife and fork rather than pick up. My companion had the Yard Work Skillet with a biscuit, a scrambled egg with lots of veggies. Ironically, the worst part of mine was the best part of hers: the biscuit itself. Mine was dry, crumbly, and just shy of burnt, and practically inedible, while hers was perfectly fluffy, perhaps the best restaurant biscuit I've had in ages. Outside of that, mine was delicious. And outside of her biscuit, the Yard Work was kinda gross: all the cooked down vegetable juice from spinach and tomatoes accumulated in the bottom of the skillet, stewing the eggs unpleasantly. Not every batch can be perfect, I get it. I expected more for my $17 biscuit though!

When we walked I counted 13 people eating. We stood at the entrance for over 5 minutes. 3 people waiting tables. Someone noticed us waiting. Got to our table ordered our drinks. Our drinks came and we placed our order. Decided on pancakes and sausage. My wife asked if she could get just one pancake instead of three. The waitress looked at her like your kidding. My wife said three was to much. The waitress came with our food just about throwing the plates on the table and I ask if there was a problem and no answer then she moved fast away from and my turned to get attention but was like a fast walk back the bar area. When she put the plates on the table my wife's one pancake no butter or sausage. We tried getting attention so my wife when to get her and told her what was missing. A couple of minutes later she had the sausage but no butter we asked for the butter again she came back and just tossed on the table and the said anything else and I looked at her and said to her do think you could handle anything else. That was our second time and the last time. After this bad review one would think from BBB would post something in return. I guess this shows the customer always correct. But I will stand behind this review and...

Update 10-7-23 Stopped in for breakfast today. Service was great as always. Chicken and waffles were awesome. Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish them because some overzealous guy decided to wipe down the bar next to me, spraying me, and ruining my appetite with cleaner smell while I am trying to eat. That guy, who was running around micromanaging everything except himself was the owner. Hope he isn’t there to ruin my breakfast again next time. Please let the professional staff do their job, instead of getting in their way.

Also, ‘thank you’ for putting in the drink order for Karen in front of me, so I am the only one at my table without a drink. So I got to sit there and wait while u twiddled your thumbs as the other drinks were made.

Really enjoy breakfast here. The biscuits and gravy are done right. The chicken and waffles are consistently very good. They have brunch drinks every day - mimosa, bloody mary, and even some beer! Their cold brew coffee is ok, but not worth it.

Unfortunately, they are not consistent with the food. Always something not right, or out of stock (or not prepped..). When done right, the french toast is amazing, unfortunately they messed up and it was bland this visit (and my...
