We were on our way home to PA from a fabulous weekend with friends at the Goshen Fairgrounds for the Hot Air Balloon Festival when we decided to stop and grab a bite to eat before taking the 3 hour trip.
I used Google Maps in assisting me to locate a sit down place where we could eat, and the 1st one listed was this Maggie McFly's Southbury - after a quick glance at the menu (which is HUGE!) I figured hubs and I could both find something to eat there, so we mapped how to get there.
1st impressions a a big deal to us, and this place leaves much to be desired. It was approx 1pm when we arrived, there didn't seem to be a ton of people in the restaurant, which we thought would be great for quick service. We were sat at a table in the bar area and the 1st thing we both noticed was how sticky the table was and how dirty the tasting plates & silverware were (like stuck on food dirty) ~ our server was happy to re-wipe the table and get us new tasting plates & silverware.
He told us the specials for the day as he was handing us the menus - let me say again, their menu is HUGE - lots of choices!!
I decided on an appetizer combo platter (for us to share) and a margarita pizza on a gluten free crust. Hubs decided on a lobster roll (which was described as Hot Buttered Lobster Served on a Buttered Roll with a Side of Crispy Fries and Housemade Coleslaw. $16.99)
The appetizer combo was great, everything was hot & fresh - the gluten free crust was like a piece of round cardboard (should have just gone with a regular crust) and the "lobster roll" was what looked like 6 or 7 pieces of langostino meat on a HOT DOG BUN!! for $16.99!!
VERY disappointing to say the least. We are planning a few more trips to CT this year, but we definitely are NOT planning on going back to any location of...
Read moreThe surprise is that we always enjoy going to Maggie McFly's. The service and food make it a regular stop when we travel across I-84. Last night was a very sad example of a failure in customer care. We ordered just 2 entrees, a cocktail, soda, coffee and carrot cake. The first thing I noticed was how dirty the entire table was and it wasn't that busy. Our server took our drink order and was very attentive. She soon returned with drinks and took our food order. A burger and polenta with shrimp. The table next to us was empty but soon 3 people were occupying it. Same server took their order. Their food came before us?! When our order arrived, the polenta was now rice? And my sweet potato fried were cold, not warm or even room temp. Out right cold in the center. When we asked the server about the rice she said that her manager questioned the chef about it and the chef said that it was polenta. She took both the fries and polenta/rice back. I finished the burger. It was OK. The server returned with the new plate of polenta and shrimp. It was hot and ok tasting. The fries returned as well only the container was warm to the touch the fries were just as cold. Not eaten. The dessert of carrot cake and coffee were again OK. They gave the polenta dish for free. Nice touch. Server recieved a 20% tip from us. Though I was not happy with the food it was not her fault. I blamed her kitchen for serving bad food even after complaining. This was a real disappointment for me. Please take this review as an example of a concerned customer who wishes you to succeed. We hope not to repeat this...
Read moreWow. First, the place needs a serious make-over. We sat and ordered drinks and got all but our bar drinks. We ordered our food and waited a LONG time for our bar drinks. They eventually explained they were out of martini glasses and apologized. They came eventually. Our food came. My kids burger when asked how we wanted it cooked we said medium, came out well done. My tacos, which I asked for one of each type of tortillas, came out all the same with corn tortillas. I sent back the burger and they cooked it correctly (although half the bottom bun was drenched in fat so my son wouldn’t eat it. I sent back the tacos and they returned it corrected and I asked for hot sauce AGAIN (I asked when I ordered them) and the server who brought them never bothered to bring it. The tacos were cold. I ate them anyway. We sat and waited forever for dessert menus (we promised the kids) and the waiter was shocked we were gonna stay and practically tried to talk us out of ordering dessert. We chose the Oreo cheesecake and he felt so bad for our failed experience that he brought two slices. They were gross. They tasted old and dried up. I couldn’t eat it. Probably the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. He was nice but not very efficient and didn’t know much. And kept saying that. “Umm yeah, I don’t know.” Although the server and manager and staff were polite and we got our drinks and tacos comped, I would never...
