New China Inn — Restaurant in Southgate

I might have found my new Chinese spot. It's been so difficult to find a Chinese place that's any good in the Downriver area. A friend of mine had mentioned this place. So I gave it a try a few days ago and was pretty impressed.

First off, the women that took my order over the phone was very friendly, which hasn't been the case with other Chinese restaurants that I've visited in the past. She also seemed very organized.

For food, I ordered the almond chicken. My friend ordered the coconut chicken. While the coconut chicken wasn't the best I've ever had, my almond chicken was great. The portion size was very big.

The egg rolls are top tier, much like some of the other reviews mention.

The prices are definitely worth it for the portion size. I could not finish my meal in one sitting.

Keep in mind that this place is carryout only.

Tried New China Inn on the recommendation of a friend. Did not disappoint! Enormous portions and quality food presented well and tasted excellent. Almond Chicken comes with a brown gravy (I prefer yellow gravy but it's all good) and is separate from the chicken. Same with Sweet & Sour. But both are still tasty.

Pepper steak, shrimp egg foo young, chicken lo mein, fried rice are all awesome. But the best dish by far was the General Tso's Chicken. Perfection. Just the right amount of sweet, tangy flavor balanced with a light spicy finish. My kids gobbled up the fried shrimp, too. The crab rangoon had very generous amount of filling.

If that's not all, Sally was incredibly sweet and kind and patient when taking our order and in person. She answered questions about the menu and was incredibly friendly.

Carryout only, cash and credit but not Discover or Amex. This is definitely our new Chinese takeout...

So how does a restaurant that want people to support and buy their food not let you use the restroom?! Mind boggling. Got a damn dog gate up so customers can’t go pass the register! Interesting!

Then get home with my pepper steak with shrimp fried rice to have 3 shrimp, 4 pieces of steak, and a dumb amount of flavorless rice. Call and let them know and they state “The steak is pre-portioned. I am confident that the correct amount of steak is in your food.” What? I’m confident in what I’m looking at! Would you like a pic?! They say no.

They say bring it back and we will replace it. This would be ok any other day but today it is 8:50pm and they close at 9. I’m over 20 minutes away!

Is there anything else that can be done because I paid $18 and got 2 soy sauces when I asked for extra. Nope. So I just wasted my money and have to spend more money to eat something other than an overflowing plate of...
