Sun King Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Spartanburg

Please do not eat here!! My boyfriend and I went into the Sun King Restaurant today for a quick bite to eat. We scoured around the buffet area and started to get the few things that actually looked appetizing. We sat down and only took a couple bites when we soon realized that the food was terrible and appeared to not be properly cooked. We sat and waited for our server to come over so we could address the manager when another table began to leave after talking to the manager. When they passed by I asked if they were leaving because of the food and they said yes. My boyfriend went up to the register where the manager was and politely said that the food was really unappetizing and that we would like to not pay for both of the meals that clearly weren’t eaten. The manager then proceeded to say that there was “nothing wrong with the food” and that my boyfriend is “a big man” and that he “likes food, likes to eat, and will eat anything.” My boyfriend then got upset at the comment and began to tell the manager that we weren’t going to pay for what wasn’t eaten. I always go into Sun King buffet one to two times a week. My favorite thing to eat there is the broccoli chicken. Whenever I make my plate I always get more chicken than broccoli because I'm not crazy about the broccoli because it's always hard. I noticed the last few times that I went in the man at the register kept staring at me whenever I was making my plate.

The last time I went to Sun King the man behind the register informed me that I could not be eating all the chicken out of the broccoli chicken because they were losing money because the chicken cost more than the broccoli. I turned around and left.

This is the way his Sun King treats their regular customers? The waiters and waitresses were always rude but I still always left them a $7 tip.

I thought when you went to eat buffet you were supposed to eat whatever you wanted and as much of it as you wanted as long as you weren't wasting it. Apparently that isn't the way Sun King buffet operates. They want to monitor what people put on their plates there.

I will not be returning to Sun King buffet and I do not recommend that anyone go there to eat unless you like to have your plate monitored while you're making it...

Literally the worst Chinese buffet I've been to. Things you didn't think couldn't possibly not be done well were. Flavor was lacking on so many things and the stuff that had flavor was not a good flavor. The meat was so questionable i spit out a lot of it back onto my plate. My kids favorite is always the sugar Donuts and they were so hard and inedible, desert cakes were so dried out- honestly the list is so extensive i don't have enough characters alloted here to critique it all, though i wish i could. The guy refilling our drinks and taking plates was the only good part- he was nice, quick and thoughful (hence the 2 star) however at the cash register they are not polite and don't even bother to ask how was it, maybe they've heard 'not too good' way too many times so they quit asking cause i was planning on telling them. Personally i thought $8 for a 7 year old seemed kinda high to me considering what they didn't offer there, which was plenty cause the selection is very sub par. I got the strong feeling they didn't like me not leaving a tip when i signed to pay which i thought was unprofessional. I won't be returning, it was a waste of money and my kids were hungry when...
