This is a hole in a wall restaurant and one you might pass. If you do it's your loss. It's decorated like a old diner. The food is very good. Big breakfast. If you come at lunch or dinner time the bbq is very good and the hush puppies I think are the best in the area. Love the banana pudding but it's a bit expensive. The foot long hot dog I tried, it's pink, I can't eat pink hot dogs. They have beef hot dogs that are much better.
07/31/23 Update -lost a star on food. We went through your drive thru yesterday and asked the girl for a club sandwich. She said I would have to go to Salisbury your Spencer location did not serve them. Seriously? How hard is a club sandwich to make you have all the ingredients. Frustrated I saw your Sunday special was meatloaf. I enjoy a good meatloaf so I ordered your meal. First the PROS: Okra, Fried Apples, Hush Puppies were delicious. CONS: Meatloaf was the absolutely the worst meatloaf I have ever eaten. It looked like mush like some wet dog food. It had what looked like soggy corn flakes on top (why). Besides mush it lacked flavor. No seasoning, no peppers, light onion, trace amount of tomato sauce. I couldn't eat it. I tried to make a sandwich out the meatloaf mush the following day and added mayo and mustard and seasonings and still could not stomach it. Skip the meatloaf and order...
Read moreBorn and raised in Lexington, living directly in-between Lexington BBQ (Monk's place) and Speedy's so I know my Q! I live in Charlotte and good BBQ does not exist here, period. If someone says it does, they don't know what Lexington-style BBQ is like. I recently took my family to the train museum in Spencer and we were in a hurry but knew we had to each lunch. The waiting staff was superb. Every one of them said hello or asked us if we needed something, even if they weren't waiting our table. I got the large chopped tray and I can attest to it having the most BBQ of any large tray I have ever had. The BBQ was spot-on and the hushpups were like crack. They even had the sweet tea nailed. Great prices for the amount of food you get. I hope they take this is a compliment, but I felt like I was back in Lexington at Wayne Monk's place but with larger portions for the price. I talked up Lexington Q to my wife from Michigan for years. She finally ate there and wasn't overly impressed from all the hype. At Hendrix, she actually loved it and couldn't believe how good it was and how much pulled pork was in the tray. I had to eat...
Read moreStopped in on Memorial Day Monday after visiting the Train museum with my grandbabies. The parking lot was pretty full but the restaurant is larger than it looks from outside and we were seated rather quickly. Our server was amazing! She had the patience of Job since this was our first visit and we asked a lot of questions about the menu! So many wonderful choices! She even brought me a small sample of the chicken and dumplings to taste since I couldn’t decide! The dumplings were delicious! My son ordered the bbq and loved it! Husband ordered a huge breakfast platter and everything was cooked to perfection! The red slaw is a must try if you’ve never had it! My grandson, 4 years old, noticed three law enforcement officers in the next section of the dining room and was curious so I walked him a little closer and they waved us over to their table. They gave my grandson a gold badge sticker and chatted with us for a few minutes! I thought that was super nice since they were on their lunch break and my grandson was in awe! I don’t remember their names but they really made the visit special and I appreciate it! The entire experience...
