Dos Amigos is near wear we live and we've been meaning to stop in for some time. Well some time finally showed up.
The decor is very simple, typical of a mom and pop type place. There are both booths and tables available. As is the custom with Mexican food your meal starts with chips and salsa. This got us really excited about our meal because both the chips and the salsa were the best we've had in our two years in Spokane. You get two salsas, one mild yet very flavorful and a second dish that is hotter and much spicier. You can mix the too to create a medium salsa.
I had the Dos Amigos shredded beef burrito with an a la carte cheese enchilada and my girlfriend had a combo plate with a chile relleno, a cheese enchilada, and a hard shell chicken taco. The portions were good sized (the burrito was enormous!), arrived hot, and were well prepared. Unfortunately they didn't seem to be seasoned at all.
The ingredients tasted as if they were high quality but it seemed as if they were put together in their respective dishes with out any kind of seasoning whatsoever. Unless their salsa is commercially prepared they certainly know how to season because that salsa is spectacular, yet that seasoning didn't make it to any of our dishes. I salted mine, which helped, but it was the first time I can ever remember putting salt on Mexican food. It's too bad because if these dishes had been spiced even in a minimal way this would have been a great meal. As it was, it wasn't terrible, just bland.
The service was good and they are very friendly. If only they could sprinkle some of that salsa magic on the main dishes Dos Amigos would be a place I'd look forward to...
Read moreOn Saturday, August 28, 2021, we tried Dos Amigos for the first time. We recently moved into a new house in the Spokane Valley and had no idea the restaurant existed. As we were driving down Trent on our way to pick up Jimmy John’s for dinner we noticed Dos Amigos and decided to go there instead. It is festive inside the restaurant with wall-covered murals and pinatas hanging from the ceiling. The prices are probably a tad cheaper than your average Mexican restaurant and they do have a kid’s menu. They bring chips out in a paper boat container…I would prefer an actual basket but they are generous on the refills and offer two different types of salsa so it is all good in my book. I ordered the chicken and rice burrito, my wife ordered a chimichanga, and our 4-year-old and 1-year-old split the kid’s menu nachos. My wife commented on how fresh the food was and I have to say that my dinner was pretty good. The one thing that kind of differentiates Dos Amigos from other Mexican restaurants is that at the end of the meal your server will bring you a large sopapilla topped with whipped cream and a berry sauce. Nothing like free dessert! We will adopt Dos Amigos as our new go-to neighborhood...
Read moreMy favorite Mexican food in Spokane! When we lived in the area we ate at Dos Amigos at least once a month, sometimes once a week, for many years. This is a very traditional family run restaurant with authentic food. Nothing but genuineness here.
I miss the days when I was a kid and they turned the restaurant into a dance floor on the weekends. I miss people who care more about the quality of your food than the money you're spending. I miss occasionally treating our kids to the imported Mexican candies they have.
The worst experience we ever had was when the food was not consistent with what we always received. I related my view to the wife and she profusely apologized and explained they were breaking in a new cook. THEN, she went in back and cooked our order to her high standards herself. Our replacement meal was exactly as good as always. But when our bill came, she only charged us for one of our two meals. We left the cost of both meals on the table plus a tip.
Dos Amigos elicits nothing but happy memories. If every other American worked as hard as these two do, there would be no such thing as unemployment.
We miss and...
