La plaza de Mexico 4/5 star service Cozy atmosphere and decent service. Some items of the order were forgotten had to ask more than once for items ordered. Staff was very nice about it though and definitely has a family and friends vibe. 3/5 star food Chips were warm and tasted relatively fresh but not homemade. Salsa was absolutely delicious flavor was deep and multifaceted I could taste the roasted components. Three heat temps no heat, faint heat, and hot. The no heat salsa had good flavor and seasoning had a fresh cilantro component. The medium salsa had just the slightest hint of heat after each bite. The hot salsa seemed to be a tomatillo and habanero blend great flavor intense acidic heat. The drinks were good the aguas were delicious we got horchata and it was one of the best ones we have had in the area. Main dishes ordered were carne asada plate and the pork carnitas. The carne asada was very oily and lacked depth of flavor. The rice was bland. The beans were delicious i filled up mostly on beans and tortillas(which are not made there) The carnitas were boiled pork chunks very little flavor and absolutely no texture whatsoever I would go so far as to say they should not be called carnitas. I would return at least once more to try some standard items enchilada, taco, nachos. Based on those around me I believe this is more of an apps and margaritas...
Read moreThis is our second visit and it was just as good as the first. The house margarita was delicious (and only $5.95 at happy hour at the time of this review), but the moonlight margarita is a good choice only if you like VERY sweet beverages. Expect more of a Tex-Mex kind of experience regarding the food. I ordered the Chile Colorado and she ordered the vegetarian fajitas. The Chile Colorado was tender and balanced with flavors (tomato and pepper). The vegetarian fajitas were very diverse and seasoned well. The dish included rainbow carrots, which might seem odd and/or insignificant - but it implies this restaurant isn't cutting corners and seems genuinely interested in delivering a great experience for customers. Service was very friendly and food arrives very fast. According to some people from Texas at the table next to us, this is their favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. So, unfortunate for the snooty Californian that gave an unfair one-star review, but maybe check the menu before you come next time so you set appropriate expectations or, better yet, go back to the place from...
Read moreI've spent most of my adult life in Arizona and Southern California and so I've been fortunate to get some great Mexican food. I moved to Spokane in 2016 and I've been underwhelmed so far by the Mexican food I've had here. That changed yesterday when we visited La Plaza de Mexico.
The restaurant itself has both booths and tables. They have a full bar for those who are so inclined but we only had soft drinks on this visit. The room was clean and cheerful.
We had the chicken flautas as an appetizer and they were excellent, fried crispy on the outside with a moist interior. We both had cheese enchiladas, I also had a crispy shell taco and my girlfriend a chile relleno. I asked for green sauce on my enchiladas and it had a nice tang to it, just like I like it. My girlfriend said her chile relleno was perfect.
Our server was friendly and helpful although it seemed like he went MIA a time or two.. The food seemed to take a while to get to us as well. These are the reasons this isn't a five star review. We will definitely be back and if these improve I'll be happy to add...
