Hillside Inn — Restaurant in Spokane

The 3 star rating has nothing to do with the quality of food which was excellent and cooked perfectly as ordered, the service was good and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Here's my story. So I found this place on Google and wanted to try it. Liked it immediately when I walked in. Started eating and knew I would be back here. About half way through someone started cleaning the bathrooms about 10' from my table. Whatever cleaner they used came to my table and saturated my nose so that the last 1/3 of my meal tasted like cleaning product and literally ruined my meal which is unfortunate. You need to be aware of things that may interfere with the meal enjoyment. I was gonna give 4 stars but on my 20 min drive home I started getting a headache and stomach ache which I never get so it was upsetting that my first experience here made me sick. First impressions are lasting. I look forward to going back again, BUT I will not be sitting anywhere close to the restroom. Update4/26/23 I've been dying to give them another try and went in at about 11am. I went to the opposite side of the restaurant this time and sat down to a wet floor. ??? And guess what it smelled like, AGAIN. cleaning solution, I mean come on I like a clean place but how bout waiting until there's no food or people around so I can enjoy the actual taste of the food people. We came in on a week day at 12:33 pm. when they close at 1. We knew we were cutting it close , but we still had just short of 30 minutes before they close. We walk in she told us they were closed. That the kitchen staff were shutting everything down. Excuse me ? I was in the restaurant business for just shy of 14 years. If a restaurant closes at one, that means you seat people until 1 PM. That doesn’t mean that you get to walk out the door, as an employee at 1 PM. I thought it was kind of ridiculous and it will certainly stop us from coming back.

I hope someone from the management team sees this, and realizes what the staff is doing. Just a heads up, if you plan on going there anywhere near closing, they won’t seat you.

Honestly, this place is amazing! The atmosphere was so cozy and they are the nicest people in the world. I called ahead to see if they had liver and onions. They did! My favorite! The waitress was the owners daughter and the cook was her brother. My wife had the tuna melt and said it was great too! Also, couldn't not try the clam chowder. It's to die for. I was speechless at the prices as well. Everything was very reasonable. The decor was awesome as well. This will be a regular place for my wife and I from now on.
