My wife and I recently moved to Spring City from out of state. We wanted a pizza and thought we’d try a take-out order from the American Grill. This was our first time as customers there.
Upon entering the foyer my presence was announced via a subdued audible signal. It was loud enough to be heard but not at all annoying. What I could see of the restaurant from there was truly impressive. This place is worth seeing just because it is so beautifully and tastefully laid out. It is richly appointed and beautiful. It is, as far as I could see, clean.
But it is one of those public places that always makes me wonder why they put glass covered paintings where the lighting produces a glare on the art so that it can never be viewed properly. But no solution to that problem occurred to me, given they wanted that painting under glass.
During the time I waited to see an employee a full ten minutes passed. I was about to take my business elsewhere when a young lady appeared from the kitchen. In short time there were three young ladies representing the restaurant behind the counter. I placed my order for a 16 inch peperoni pizza to go. She tallied up the price which came to $11.50. I certainly couldn’t complain about that.
Then I remembered my wife’s preference for alfredo sauce, so I asked if that could be substituted for the standard marinara sauce. They do offer that but for an additional two dollars. I asked why they charge for the substitution and was very politely told that the alfredo sauce costs them more to buy. This makes sense but does beg the question; why have we made this substitution at several other restaurants, but this is the only time we’ve been charged extra?
Still, the staff were sweet and charming and even patient with me.
I brought the pizza home in one of those pizza carriers the delivery people use. It arrived still plenty warm for enjoyment. Upon opening the box we were surprised to see that the peperoni slices were sparsely sprinkled on. We counted 19 slices which averages 2 and 3/8 per average slice. There were 8 large slices and one didn’t even have one slice of peperoni. We felt twice the provided number would be minimal.
The crust was light and tasty and exactly to my liking. The alfedo sauce and the cheese were tasty too. We just thought the pizza was closer to being a cheese pizza than to being the peperoni pizza we ordered.
We will try the American Grill again. We want to see what’s on their main menu. We will dine in there sometime but we aren’t getting a pizza...
Read moreWe arrived at 7:30, thinking they closed at 9 per the times listed online, however they had temporary hours listed on the door that indicated they closed at 8. We asked if it was too late to get a table, and were told it was just fine. We sit down and order... and wait. And wait. And wait. During this time I had to go get a waitress to take my drink order twice. The coke that was ordered was completely flat and tasted as if it came out of a bottle. Finally after waiting almost an hour we tell the waitress we can't stay any longer. Miraculously our food arrives with the waitress telling us rudely "the kitchen apologizes they couldn't get the food out fast enough for you." Mind you, during the hour we were there, not one person checked on us, we had to go ask for refills and there was not one apology about the wait or lack of service. And again, we had no problem going somewhere else but they continued to seat people after we arrived. Let's get to the food. To our dismay the pizza was completely undercooked (I'm guessing they yanked it out of the oven when they heard we were leaving), the chicken tenders were soggy, old, tough pieces of meat that had a funny taste, the steak fries had rotten parts. At this point we tell the waitress we're not going to eat the food and to bring us a check for the two coffees we had. She says she'll be right back and... we wait another fifteen minutes before finally going up to the counter to cash out. They had no problem charging us for the drinks - non alcoholic - after the atrocious experience we had. We never received an apology, nothing, just a bill. Im not sure if it was an off night but our experience was the wait staff and kitchen do not care about the customers and if you want to be treated like a burden this is the...
Read moreFormerly called "King of Pizza", this family restaurant has been a go to for locals and tourist of Watts Bar Lake combined since the 1980's. My favorite for sure. Their Pizza is hand-tossed and made from scratch, and may possibly be the best you have ever had(my opinion) and has four different sizes to choose from: 9", 12", 14", & 16". Pan pizzas are available too, you'll wait a little longer for those, but, DANG🤩, you won't regret the wait for perfection. The grill offers a variety of menu items including everything from hamburger and hotdog baskets, to dinner platters like "hamburger steak" , "butterflied chicken" , "shrimp on the barbie", and their famous "baby back ribs" - that will "FALL OFF THE BONE"(ain't kiddin')! Order a "Loaded Baked Potato" as a side, but bring your appetite, because footballs can at times be put to shame by these babies(no joke)! A full bar is offered with a variety of whiskey, wine, and many other spirits. Large choice of draft & bottled beers and a seasonal lager is usually kept in stock. Don't let the bar scare your family off, this is as family as a family restaurant can get. No ruff & rowdy crowd here - just a place to enjoy a drink or two with your meal along with your family or colleagues. A good game ball game is always on the TV's btw. Don't leave without some turtle pie! No disappointments are to be expected while dinning here, unless you just "like" being hungry...
