I’m pretty picky when it comes to “Authentic” Mexican cuisine. As a native Californian, I’ve been blessed to have experienced some of the best Mexican establishments—we are talking hole-in-the-wall joints where Gringos need a password to get “the good stuff” 👀😂 I also frequently ate at my Hispanic (specifically Mexican ) friends’ homes ❤️. I was spoiled by the best of the best madre/Tia noms. I’ve also lived in Vegas and the same can be said for that city—24/7 access to some of the finest Mexican cuisine, not just the typical “Americanized” version of what most non-Latino’s are used to (aka: little spice, bland, and the typical “taco meal”🥴🙄)
I have to say that La Plaza Feista has done a damn good job. It is THE best truly Mexican restaurant here in Sioux Falls. Could they improve upon some items? Yep. Yet even restaurants get it wrong from time to time. Overall, our experience was a solid 9 out of 10. My only issue was that my hand-made tortillas were a tad doughy and underdone. But holy hell—Thank you baby Jesus for giving us a restaurant with TRUE handmade tortillas! Nothing beats handmade. I grew up watching my best friend’s Tia make them from scratch. 👩🍳💋
I had the Molcajete Fiesta. There were a few items missing from my dish: the two jumbo shrimp and carnitas. Aside from that, it was insanely good. The flavors were everything I remembered from my California friends’ homes. A perfect variety of meats, it’s definitely filling. I did not eat my rice or beans because the meat alone filled me up.
My husband had a carnitas burrito. Huge. If he doesn’t talk while eating, I know he’s enjoying his food and 100 percent invested 👀😂😂
My son had the combo plate of Chile relleno, taco, and beef burrito. He chowed down and finished all but the Chile.
I have to say the Churro cart is a cute concept and made dessert fun 🤩
Ps—to the woman that left a poor review and spoke of a “language barrier”, we found no such issue. I speak Spanish, but my husband and son do not. That being said many of their staff speak their Native tongue—Spanish, so perhaps it was a heavy accent that she mistook for a “language...
Read moreFour of us ate there. We were there on a Thursday about 6 pm. First it was so noisy, we couldn’t even visit across the table. I question if the server could hear well. One order a plate with meat in a mole sauce. The mole tasted like tomato sauce with chili powder dumped in, no good essence of chocolate. One ordered the special. The flavor was okay but the presentation made it look like someone had partially chewed it and spit it on the plate. Neither of these meals were served with tortillas on the side. One ordered a beef quesadilla. It was a decent size but there was very little cheese and the beef was ground meat that was full of whole cloves for a very different flavor. That last ordered a plate of tacos. It was optioned as hard or soft shell. They ordered soft. The plate came with hard shells. When telling the server of the mistake, this was not who took the order, he just nodded and walked away. After about a 5 minute wait of not seeing our original waiter, they ate the hard shells. There was no cheese on the tacos, the beans and rice were as flavorless. Our original waiter finally showed up at the end of the meal. He was informed of the taco error, and presented an overall air of indignity about it. None of us will ever return there or recommend it. Rating this place at one star may be a...
Read moreNever have I ever experienced a place like this. Walked in and got seated immediately despite how busy the place was on sunday at 5:30ish. Sat down, I got a menu and was given a good amount of time to browse the menu without being rushed. Got a strawberry margarita on rocks it was good. Then I ordered my food. In 5-10mins, it came out hot and ready. Service was so fast I was shocked and was fumbling chips and dips out of the way so it could be placed in front of me. Got the philly cheese steak and only complaint was the steak was slightly chard on edges and could taste it, but it was great nonetheless. I then ordered a mango blended margarita. I could taste the tequila. No complaints it was exactly what I was looking for.
Overall, the place was amazing. I never write reviews, but I needed to so people know how amazing it was. With everything I got, it was 46 dollars and some change. It's worth every penny in my book!!!! Again, the service was insane. I never get this type of service anywhere!!!! It was great!! Fyi, I was there by myself. So the quickness may be different for a group of people, but as I looked around, everyone was smiling ear to ear, including the large groups that were in there...
