For medical reasons my wife had to switch to a vegan diet. To introduce her to some new foods that she could eat i thought that we would give this place a try. When we entered we were one of three groups of people in there. Oddly enough this was busy for them since it took them ten minutes just to take drink orders. After looking over the menu we asked if certain items were vegan friendly and contained no animal products. We were told that they were not. So we ordered a mix of items that what we were told were Vegan friendly and a mix of items for myself that were not. Twenty minutes later the food started to came out bit by bit. Even though i requested that everything be brought out at together. Our food was brought by a second waitress who had no problem mixing up our foods. A bit later more of our food was brought out by a third waitress. i was surprised when i saw that they plated all of the sushi on one plate mixing my wife's vegetarian rolls with my seafood rolls, especially when we made it clear that my wife can not have any animal products. Then our original waitress brought our soups. It was only after my wife ate her soup that we learned that it contained a clam based broth! Because apparently clams aren't animals. But let's set all of that aside. The food. How was it? To be honest, the sushi was extremely mediocre and forgettable. The soups and maki? Cold by the time they arrived and bland. The vegetable gyoza and pork gyoza? Those were ok, but i have had better. So in general if you have no special dietary needs and have alot of time to kill waiting for a wait staff to serve you that probably won't be able to answer any of your questions, then this is the...
Read moreI only recently heard about Oyako Sushi, although they seem to have been open for several years now. I enjoy sushi, so gave them a try the other day. I was in late on a Wednesday night (around 8pm) and no one else was in the restaurant aside from staff. In looking over the options, I decided I'd give the all you can eat sushi deal a try ($19.95 M-Th, and $20.95 on weekends). It's limited to their special rolls, which are huge, by the way. I'm used to getting smaller rolls, nothing like the ones I had at Oyako. For the all you can eat deal, you start with 2 of their special rolls, and then after that you can order 1 at a time. In the end, I had 4 rolls: Rock-n-Roll, TNT Roll, Wasabi Rainbow Roll, and the Oyako Roll, and I had a hard time finishing the last one. I thought the sushi tasted very good. The combo rolls are large and have a lot of different flavors going on, and I enjoyed them as a change from my usual sushi dining. Their wasabi seemed very mild to me, and I was expecting a stronger wasabi flavor in the wasabi rainbow roll, but it did not have the punch. But that's more of a minor detail. The service was very good, as well, but I was the only customer in the place (not a big challenge). For being in a strip mall, I thought they did a nice job of decorating to make it feel more personable. I will go back, but I think I'll try one of their sushi dinner combos (a single tuna roll w/9 assorted pieces of sushi) instead of their all you can eat...
Read more*Very bad experience...my husband and I were really sick after eating from this restaurant. I did a walk-in order, however there was a table blocking the entrance to the restaurant. I waited a few minutes before anyone came up to help me. The man who took my order apologized for the wait and asked me how long I’d been standing there. I ordered two rolls (both cooked), fried soft shell crab and gyoza for my husband and I to share. After a 15 minute wait, I paid and took my food. I did think that it was odd because it seemed as though the man who took my order was the only person working at that time (I could be wrong). The food wasn’t bad at all...however 30-40 minutes after eating, I BECAME VERY ILL. At first, I didn’t attribute it to the food, not until my husband began to feel sick shortly after, that is. We both were very sick for the rest of the night. I’m assuming we had a case of food poisoning. I called the restaurant about half an hour ago, just to let them know that their food made us sick. I didn’t ask for a refund or anything, I just wanted to let someone know so that they could investigate...I didn’t want anyone getting sick. I was offered an apology, however the exchange was very brief and I didn’t feel that my complaint was handled in the best way. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant at all, and I will not be going back, obviously. All of this happened yesterday, and I am posting my review today, and I’m still feeling a...
