I have been coming to this location since it opened. It was nice to finally see something other than a pizza place open up in wyndmoor. I have tried everything in the menu, the tacos are the best thing there. The chips are fresh and homemade. some of the food items like the burritos or enchiladas are hit or miss though unfortunately. The enchiladas are microwaved. The burritos are good if you like simple burritos, but they have no vegetables other than black beans. My personal recommendation would be an order of tacos or the fajitas. All of the meats and produce are fresh and have really good flavor. The grilled chicken and chicken tinga are both really good. The pastor and chorizo are also pretty delicious. However, the carnitas and grilled chicken are somewhat plain. The carnitas is flavorful but feels like it's lacking something. There are occasionally some interesting specials that you don't too often find. There is also things like tres leches and Orchata that is qhite delicious. I also personally enjoyes the tilapia fish tacos. The red sauce and green sauce are a nice change from regular salsa and other sauces you might get at a chain store like chipotle. If you are looking for something Mexican but don't want fast food like chipotle, taco bell, Qdoba or something similar, here is a pretty all around spot to stop at.
However, I do have to warn about some things: inconsistent portion sizes and strange pricing. One good example is how the menu says $9.95 for most items, but you get charged $11. Another issue here is ordering through food delivery / pickup apps. Often times orders are missed or outright not accepted. Your best bet is to call the restaurant directly and pick it up, or use UBER EATS for delivery. Uber eats has highest chance of getting your order accepted.
The restaurant is decently clean and well kept. The staff is mostly friendly, and nice to have conversations with. The owner always has conversations with customers and makes sure the customers are satisfied as best they can.

Read moreI am so grateful to have found this place! I was driving to my parents several months ago & saw the sign for El Jefe! I love Mexican food, so I told them about it. They didn’t even know it was there! We ordered some take out, & I was in love!!! Every time I go there, we order from them! My fiancé & I are vegetarian & they make our food with freshly prepared veggies & ingredients. The owner is so kind & is such an incredible chef! We love the chimichangas & empanadas! We went there for dinner tonight & even ordered some food to heat up tomorrow. The gentleman that made our dinner tonight cooked it perfectly! The food is the best Mexican food I have ever had! Do yourself a favor & check...
Read moreAtmosphere: .5/1: This is your typical hole in the wall restaurant. Small with minimal decorations and a small bathroom in the back. Service: 1/1: welcoming, friendly and fast. Price: .5/1: the appeal of a hole in the wall is great food at a cheap price. Hence, I think $12 for 3 tacos without any sides is expensive. The guac and chip is $12 also… Food: 2/2: The al pastor tacos were made on the spot and were delicious, even without the typically added pineapple. Plenty of meat. Spicy sauce on the side. They make their own chips and guac.
Overall 4/5: El Jefe sells good tacos but kinda pricey for a hole...
