Unfortunately, George's Restaurant did NOT live up to their reviews. As a third-generation American of Hispanic decent I have been blessed to live in this great country and have not experienced the prejudice which has been so predominant in the media today. I came to Springfield, Missouri this weekend with my family and have had a wonderful experience untill I walked in George's Restaurant the morning of July 31st . The waitress Sarah was amazing, we had walked in with a Starbucks Coffee which seemed to be the catalyst of our party being expelled. I spoke to the manager Joe which stated we could not bring in outside drinks and suggested we leave them sitting outside as we eat and pick them up on my way out. We choose to leave however, I decided to return to give our waitress a tip for the great service she had provided untill we had been asked to leave. That's when I noticed we where not the only party with outside drinks or food. HONESTLY my heart broke, I thought our society had progressed. I am in complete agreement that everyone should come to this country legally and adapt to this country including knowing the language . Which my family did since we came to country, legally. I had to use a credit card to provide a tip for the waitress because unfortunately I did not have any cash. I explained the situation to the cashier who appeared to be very surprised. I also asked for the owner's contact information. To my surprise the owner was standing next to the cashier. I am certain the owner was very aware of this situation. I waited patiently well within his line of sight as he spoke to a patron. I must have waited ten minutes and he never even looked up or acknowledged me. Is it crazy for me to think that this is blatant racism? I am not one to usually go on social media to complain, however, I feel I have a duty to inform the public what to expect if you go into George's family restaurant and you are not Caucasian. Being a man of God I will continue to pray for Joe and the owner of...

Jan 15th, 2023 Update: Unfortunately, not the same old George's. We stopped for lunch (Jan 15th, 2023). We hadn't been there in awhile after several unsuccessful attempts (the hours kept changing) to eat there over the last few months. There were several booths empty, which was unusual for lunchtime. We were going to order our usual fare: Hamburger/Fries and Cheese Enchilada Dinner. $12.99 for their burger and fries and no listing on the menu for Enchiladas?. I asked our server why they stopped serving Enchiladas. Our server said they did have the Enchilada Dinner and after looking he couldn't believe it wasn't listed on the menu anymore. The entire time we were there the staff were continually yelling and laughing very, very loudly at one another, the music was extremely loud as well, which helped ruin our return to Georges (usually it's the students that eat there on the weekends that do most of the yelling). The Enchilada Dinner looked more like mixed Mexican casserole that had been hastily thrown together, plus it had way too much gooey cheese, that infused with the rice, beans and cold avocado salad, yuk. They have (had) the best salsa ever, that we would buy by the jar any time we dined there in the past. Now the salsa has been watered down and didn't have that fresh richness and spiciness that we loved. We thought the price increases were just a bit too high, but with everything rising in cost these days we could accept these increases. The quality of the food has changed for the worse. After finishing our meals we agreed; this would probably would be our last meal there after 20+ years. They must have a new owner/manager that just doesn't care. Another tradition in Springfield gone....
Read moreWent in today and ordered the sampler appetizer (which on the menu says no substitutions). The appetizer came out with the wrong dipping sauce, and they substituted the southwest egg rolls, which is the only reason I got the sampler, for some dry nasty looking bone-in wings without telling me they were out of the egg rolls. I asked the waitress about the mix up, and her solution was to take it back and remove it from the bill. She then came back after throwing it away and informed us the manager would only partially refund it since we ate a couple items off of it before realizing it was wrong. I decided to let it go until our entrees come out. My chicken strips entree was missing a side item, and most of my guest’s meal had been microwaved to hide the fact that it had been sitting around since breakfast. While all this is happening, we’re swatting away numerous flies from landing on our food. At this point I asked for the manager and explained to her what happened and that we weren’t eating any of it. The best she could come up with was to take 1 of the 2 completely uneaten meals off of the bill, and and charge half of the amount for the appetizer.
The food is gross, the restaurant is obviously in need of cleaning with the flies everywhere, and their solutions to problems that they cause are ridiculous. I wouldn’t waste my time or money...
