I ordered a pizza via their online order system (don't use it). The system messed up, charged my card but never put the delivery in. I called the store to see if they had received my order or if they could give me a refund. I was hungry at this point and just wanted to know if I had a pizza on the way or if i should order from somewhere else. I had to repeatedly call the store to get an answer, I explained the situation to the receptionist, and she wasn't sure on the protocol thus put me on hold to get the manager. I sat on hold for thirty mins, hungry just wanting some food. I eventually hung up and called again, receptionist goes to get manager again, after more time on hold I finally got to speak with the manager. He told me this has happened various times with there online ordering system. Asked if I was sure I called the right store. Told me I'd be getting no pizza, and told me I'd just have to wait for the charge to get rejected (this took days). Was rude and short. Offered no apology for having me sit on hold for a half hour. He did not offer to take a new order and ensure it got to me asap. Basically, he was rude and clearly incompetent for his position. I tried to leave store feedback on Imo's feedback page, but they asks for all your personal info just short of your ssn to even tell them about the rude, incompetent buffoons running their restaurants. I was really excited to try this restaurant, because I've never had St Louis style pizza before, but now I've never had and never will eat an Imo's pizza. What kind of company makes it this difficult to order a pizza online when there's competent 3rd parts options they could be using? What kind of company puts buffoons into manager positions? What kind of company makes leaving feedback so unappealing? One that I don't want to eat at, to...
Read moreI have to admit I have been wrong about something my entire life. As it turns out, there actually IS such a thing as a bad pizza.
For decades, I (and many others) have said, "there's no such thing as a bad pizza." The fall back position was, "even bad pizza is better than no pizza," which also turns out to be wrong.
Imo's Pizza, here in Springfield, MO, combines an imagined worst-ever Chicago tavern-style pizza (thin crust cut into squares, which I love) with a St. Louis-style crust (think overcooked dried shoe leather- never my first pick- though I have found a few that were okay here, like Rocco's Pizza).
And then...it is covered with provel cheese, a monstrosity that was created in St. Louis and is really only popular in the St. Louis area and apparently, here. Provel is a processed cheese known for its gooey, buttery texture and a blend of...wait for it...Swiss cheese, White Cheddar, Provolone, and...Liquid Smoke. Or as I call it, Frankenstein's Cheese. It's okay on sandwiches where it is part of many other flavors, but DOES NOT work melted on top of pizza as a predominant flavor.
I was warned not to go there by someone with a restaurant industry background and I didn't listen. I don't know what you would call this, but they need to stop calling it pizza.

Read moreI started trying to place a delivery order at 8pm for a store that is open until 9pm. After spending 10 minutes on their site trying to get an order through, I noticed that is said they were closed for delivery.
So I called he store where I was forced to sit through one of the most annoying phone recordings I’ve ever experienced and then, when someone finally answered, they just said, “Imo’s on Cherry and Pickwick please hold.”
After a few seconds on hold, some kid (sounded young and stoned) picks back up and just says, “uh yeah we are done with that….we’re only open for 45 more minutes and we have too many orders.”
As always. I entirely blame this on the corporation and its greed. If they paid their employees enough money to survive, they could afford things like extra drivers, people who actually cared, and to accept drivers orders until they close.
Sink or swim Imo’s. Either pay your people and treat them well or become a thing of the past. This is inexcusable and just lazy, reflects poorly on your entire business.
edit - This exact thing has happened to me twice more since I wrote this review. I’m done. I love their food and it’s going to suck for me, but I will not be spending another penny on this...
