Jimmy John’s on National: Where the Bread’s was Not Toasted and Neither is the Vibe
I came in with dreams. Dreams of biting into my favorite Spicy Italian, toasty, melty, with all the zing and zip I love. But instead… I got a cold sandwich and a cold shoulder so aggressive it nearly filed for assault.
Here’s how it went down:
I order my go-to, the Spicy Italian. Then, literally seconds later - I say, “Hey, can you toast that for me?”
And the guy behind the counter, without blinking, hits me with: “Too late. You didn’t name it when you ordered. Sorry, bro.”
Sorry, bro?! Sir, you’re not in a Marvel movie. You’re slapping meat on bread behind the counter, and I’m trying to salvage my sandwich dreams here. But I couldn’t even respond. Because the tone? Was less “customer service” and more “say one more word and I’ll fold you like a tortilla.”
So now I’m just standing there, stunned, holding a receipt I never got (because apparently the receipt printer was on strike too), waiting awkwardly while my mood deflates like a day-old pickle.
When my sandwich finally arrived, I didn’t even want to eat it. The vibes were off. The bread was cold. Even the spicy peppers tasted like regret.
Spicy Take:
JJ is is my favorite fast food spot. Quick, delicious, reliable. But when you serve up attitude instead of extra sauce, the whole meal falls flat. Look, I get it - maybe it was a rough day, maybe there’s a “toasting policy” written in the ancient scrolls of sandwich law…
But seriously . Just toast the golden sandwich. Or at least don’t make me feel like I’m on the verge of being tackled for asking.
Final Thoughts:
Jimmy John’s on National, you were the chosen one. Now you’re just the place where my sandwich went to die a lukewarm death.
Still love the Spicy Italian. Still love the concept. But that service? Cold. Like my un-toasted sandwich. Do...
Read moreI had a rather negative experience upon my last visit and I won't likely be back for a while.
I walked in during the busy lunch rush with $115 in cash on me. I ordered an Italian Night Club combo, add Jimmy Peppers and avocado spread. The cashier rang me up and stated my total was $15.45. I proceeded to hand him a $100 bill. He wouldn't take it, saying that there was 4" square piece of paper on the front door declaring that they wouldn't accept any bills larger than $20. So I told the gentleman that I only had $15 in small bills. By this time there was a line behind me and my sandwich was already made. He tried to add rewards to my order for a discount, to no avail. So I said, "I guess take the avocado spread off." The cashier then picked up the sandwich and handed it back to the kitchen staff saying, "make this without avocado spread so he can afford his lunch." I felt like that was pretty rude and embarrassing. The kitchen staff then remade my sandwich and he charged me $14.10. I had to wait for my sandwich and I assume they threw the other one away? The whole situation just seemed ridiculous to me. . . . Over 45 cents? The sandwich was good, but my lunch experience was kind of ruined. I'm not one to be easily offended, but this all seemed soo wasteful and dumb to me. It definitely could have been handled better. $14 for a cold sandwich and chips isn't worth this situation being added on top of it. I was very put off and will not likely return to...
Read moreOk before I explain why only 3 stars, let me say how fast the delivery is that it is amazing and I always tip them good as well as I really do like thier sandwiches but I add my own spinach & usually a veggie patty. Now the reason they only get 3 stars is they only use iceberg lettuce which has no nutritional value when they could at least have an option for spinach. I also wish you could get anything on the side. I will NOT eat soggy foods but it is between no condiments or you have to have them put them on in store if picking up for a picnic, office party or to take to work etc. The second reason is only 1 vegetarian option and they are the same price as a meat sandwich. If you do not get the larger more expensive one there is very little veggies. I don't understand why if Burger King can offer a veggie burger, Subway with a fantastic veggie patty and even McDonald's is going to start offering one, why Jimmy John's doesn't offer one. That would be worth the price & the tip...
