The owner was very warm and polite. The service was great. We had a very delightful conversation.
My two biggest complaints were the food and the prices. We ordered two entrees, an app and two drinks and the total ending up being around $50. I think the prices are waaaaay to high for a food cart.
It was interesting to experience authentic North Indian cuisine as a Pakistani but I felt that the Qeema was too salty and the butter chicken tasted more like acahari chicken. It lacked the smooth velvety texture of butter chicken and the kashmiri red chilli which gives it the proper color and kick was absent. The taste of ajwain and kasuri methi was too strong
This place has great potential. The chana masala with Puri took me back to being in Lahore eating breakfast with friends. And the paratha tasted just like the way my mom made it for me to take to school in my lunchbox as a child.
However, the salt and spice (spice meaning seasoning not hotness) level was way too high even for me
Like I said before, the prices are too high for a food cart. That being said, I would definitely return. Its more authentic and regional than the other places local...
Read moreUpdate: I still love to go to Sardarni's. They took the feedback on saltiness to heart, and the lamb curry has been less salty since. They've added some new dishes to the menu such as chole bhature, which is seriously the best thing I have tried here. I also love the Paneer Tikka Masala! As promised, I have tried both the Jalebi and the Gulab Jamun. I think I prefer the Gulab Jamun, which tastes like a pancake ball in syrup.
Got the lamb curry, paratha, and samosas. It was so yummy, and I will definitely be eating here again. It was a lot of food. My boyfriend and I split it, and I still had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. The amount of food you get for the price is well worth it. Plus, your taste buds will thank you. Next time, I will try to save room for dessert. If I could change one thing, the lamb tasted a little salty for me, but my boyfriend thought it was perfect as is. That's pretty typical for me with food...
Read moreThis place is great. I’ve never traveled to India, but this is different than what you find in most Indian restaurants here, and definitely worth the trip. The snacks—chaat—are the real attraction for me. They make a lot of spicy, savory, crunchy snacks that are inexpensive, easy to mix-and-match, and are perfect for building a small snack or whole meal, and are mostly vegan.
I also tried the chicken biryani that was on special in honor India’s Independence Day. It was delicious, which was the proof I needed to not let the fact it’s mostly vegan keep me away if I’m in need of some meat or fowl. Next time I’ll try the lamb curry, along with all the other chaat I couldn’t order the first time.
The staff are friendly too. The only real downside is it’s location: while centrally located in beautiful downtown Springfield, it’s a food cart but it’s in a courtyard where the ground and old picnic tables are in need...
