Price: $$ | Atmosphere: Loud | Accessibility: Excellent | Parking: Free in lot The Public House in Downtown Springfield is comprised of a bakery, deli/bakery, German Food restaurant, Latin Kitchen, BBQ stop, beer and wine bar and a whiskey library/lab. It’s a beautifully renovated church setting with several seating areas including a patio and yard outdoor seating. It can get crowded because it’s so popular. The staff at each establishment are friendly and the prices are not cheap but also not unreasonable with large portions for food and beverage (pints/doubles). It’s a great place to bring a date, family or friends and share.
Edit: 5/1/2019 Be wary of the Whiskey Lab cocktail hour in which they show the lab cocktails are all $1 off 4-6pm but will not take a dollar off the lab cocktail of the week (the first item in the list). It’s deceptive and making an excuse that it’s the cheapest drink on the menu is not okay when you can buy an entire bottle of alcohol for the same price as two cocktails here.
The BBQ place will make vegetarian substitutions but offer the same price as the meat option, the Pig and Turnip will substitute meat but charge the same price as the meat option and $3 more for fondue to be added to an item. The Shield Cafe didn’t even come to their window when I was at it looking at their menu to answer questions or take an order. I ended up at La Granada this time which made me some “to die for” Taku Taku with Portobello Mushroom. They got my order wrong but quickly fixed it. I ate here last time too and got some amazing vege fries. They are the friendliest and best food thus far. I’ve had pig and turnip burgers, schnitzel and fondue fries before and the burgers both beef and schnitzel were dry. The fondue fries were good but $3 to add cheese to something...
Read moreI did a review about one of the restaurants that is in Public House and gave it a 5 star review as well. PUBLIC HOUSE is the BEST lil gem I've found since moving to Oregon!!!!! It was an old church- converted into a bar/whiskey lab! They have SEVERAL different style restaurants under one roof Every is laid back, easy, and wonderful! From ordering drinks/food ext from ur phone, or the app, or just scan the QR code at ur table, or walk up to the counter & talk to a person (the old fashioned way 😉) They have SEVERAL outdoor seating areas- that are all covered with clear/plastic looking tents. So, you can see the sky, rain, sun, ect BUT you won't get rained on, or anything like that. I had my mom's Suprise party there on a Saturday & it was perfect They had plenty of diversity in food, drinks, and seating. Out back/outside they had a little stage. And in the front there is a section that is covered but has lots of natural light and plants. In doors is spectacular! They remodeled an old church, so the big bar area is a HUGE cathedral ceiling archway with stained glass windows & a very COOL CHURCH-LOOKING atmosphere! It's dome in VERY good taste!!!!! Not disrespectful at all. Everyone at my party had lots of nice things to say, but the most common compliment was that they "Loved Public House" You can NOT reserve tables or reserve rooms for parties, but hey, I had a suprise party & I just had some friends fo at 3pm and eat, drink & saved my tables and brought my sweet life cake in. The party would NOT have been so great if it wasn't for PublicHouse When we got her cake the WHOLE PLACE STARTING SINGING HAPPY BIRTHDAY-EVEN OTHER PATRONS! And they gave my mom a free round of birthday drinks!!! It was really wonderful and I love that it's in Downtown Springfield, OR!!!! so...
Read moreSome friends and I gathered to celebrate a birthday last night. Upon arriving, we began to order a ton of food and drinks. Shortly after, a couple more people arrived to join us and had brought some outside food for their meal. We were confronted by a manager and told that it wasn't allowed and they could not eat there. We did not see any sign saying this but understood the rule. We politely apologized and asked for an exception this time due to the fact that we had already ordered, the place was empty and we were celebrating a birthday. They were unwavering in their response and said we could cancel our orders and leave... I can not confirm or deny whether their posture towards us was racially motivated, but we were a large group of black and brown people, and the space we sat in was virtually empty... Either way, I will say that when approached and throughout the interaction, we all remained calm, direct, and kind. Their posture, however, was condescending, disrespectful, aggressive, and ungracious... I couldn't even finish a sentence! They definitely were on a power trip, and I'm sad that it went down that way. If I was the business owner or manager, I would have said something like, "Hey, this is our policy, but due to the circumstances and the fact that no one is around, this time we will allow it. Please dont do it again." Easy. 🤷🏽♀️ I previously liked that place and even hosted my grandfather's memorial there in the past...😢 We will not be going back and do not recommend it to our...
