Late one evening, I was strolling down Cherry and Pickwick, walking off the stress of a turbulent finals season, when I came upon the neon glow of the Team Taco sign. Feeling pangs of both hunger and relief after passing my battery of tests, I decided to reward myself with a box of nachos and a margarita. The vermillion glow from the establishment mingled with the heat of the kitchen, engulfing me in a womb-like embrace of comfort. As I approached, my anticipation slowly turned to cold dread. Within the red glow, the shadows danced an impossible umbral waltz, twisting and curving into shapes my mind could never hope to reproduce. A dull hum emenated from the crimson depths, just barely above the pitch of human hearing. The sound cut through to my very soul, filling me with the urgent need to be somewhere, anywhere but this grim precipice, but my muscles would not obey. Marionettelike, I staggered to the counter and stared into the maw of madness. Within, past the veil of the shadow's dance, a goat-headed figure hovered off the ground, robed in sheets of inky black and captivating scarlet. Beneath the twisting colors was the impression of a power beyond the physical. Staring up into its eyes felt like gazing up a sheer cliff face, a towering edifice impossibly high, somehow contained within the confines of the taco shop. As I stood transfixed, I felt the being bend a fraction of its immeasurable attention upon my lowly form. It asked without words, in a chord which shredded down my nerves like razors made of ice. It asked a question, and I somehow understood. My mouth opened, emenating forth a black stream of pure meaning, a message without medium. Ten minutes later, I got my pork belly nacho bowl and margarita. Pretty good stuff ngl, I'll...
Read moreTeam Taco is nestled in the cutest, Instagrammable, "I walk everywhere with my adorable dog" neighborhood in Springfield. Notice that? Yep, it's dog friendly! It's a taco spot for culinary nerds, foodies, and anyone who likes eating delicious foods. Especially foods that are hugged by a tortilla, dipped in guac, or mixed together in a rice bowl. Yum. Also, do you like margaritas? Well, they've got the Beyoncé of margaritas - flawless.
Let's talk tacos. The Globetrotter and the Average Joe are my favorites! But you really can't go wrong. I also frequent the B.A. Baracus and the Tofu King. Don't fret, the tofu is not a soft or a weird texture. It's a masterpiece of texture and flavor. As someone who has made a LOT of tofu and eaten it all over the world, Team Taco is doing to tofu what should be done to tofu - seasoning it, and crunching up that outside. Plus, it's topped with pickles and coleslaw. Dang it, I gotta go get a Tofu King now.
But before I do, let me also suggest... a rice bowl! Especially if you're nearing hangry mode. So good! It's any choice of protein combined with rice, beans, avocado, sour cream, and topped with a rojo or verde sauce. It's a combination of all the things I dream about while I slumber.
The vibe is 100% adorably charming. All seating is outside so yeah, bring that well behaved cute doggo of yours!
The staff is great. The tacos are great. The vibe is great. The margaritas are essentially Beyoncé. What's...

I got the margarita and it was STRONG. I can see why it's just a wee cup of it. Someone who likes to party makes those margaritas.
The tacos I got were the tofu king and the BA Baracus. The tofu king had a zangy tangy sauce that made me lick the plate. Tastey veggies on it, like a slaw. The BA was juicy brisket 😋 Both very solid choices. I had to tell my husband to get the chips and queso away from me because I was going to embarrass myself and eat them all.
The vibe is chill. I like the outdoor area even though it's hot as balls outside. In the evening it's just right. The people complaining about outdoor seating are probably agoraphobic weirdos.
We came on a Thursday and it wasn't very busy. A few cozy couples sipping their drinks. The patio was clean. The signs are very clear about what is on the food. The lady at the window who took our order was a smiling face and helped us to decide what to get. We just had a great experience and will be back for more...
