I usually don't post reviews because I feel its really petty but this place upset my whole friend group up enough to not want to come back ever again and offended us enough to post a review. The first issue was my friend was told he could not order 2 beers at once even though the rest of the table all got 2 beers. Then my friend finished his first beer within 10 minutes of ordering his first and went back up to the bar and the bartender said "woah didnt you just have one beer" and friend x said yeah? and the bartender said he could not allow people to be "slamming" beers or he would have to cut him off (on his first beer). Friend X said he would slow down and he got another beer and came back to the table and the same bartender came over to the table and demanded ID from everyone there which is fine we are all younger drinkers and look young (21,22,23 etc) friend Y had lost her ID on a trip recently and was asked to leave (which is fine because it is the law) but the bartender was very rude and offensive about it demanding she leave immediately claiming she's lying and that she is underage (she's 25 and was not drinking). he then said that he would wait there until she left and she said it's fine we are leaving.. he said okay but im gonna come back and check if you're still here. The bartender then called friend X a "liar" and claimed he had drank more than the one beer because another friend had sat his beer down next to friend X's.
No problem with the ID we understand that but the service was terrible, beer was not great and the bar tender was super rude and offensive. Calling my friend a liar and saying he would cut him off after one beer. Because he was "slamming beers" drinking one in ten minutes and claiming we were underage. We were all paying customers and have all vowed not to come back. this place ruined our Friday night and will not...
Read moreI've been to many a brewery/taproom, some of them excellent some of them awful. Tie & Timber is one of the best overall experiences I've ever had at a taproom. Upon entering I noticed a group with some dogs. I had just lost my 14 year old dog and I needed some solace, and some doggie love would help too. I started petting this small black dog, (Frankie) and his owner walks over to me and asks how I was doing. I told her what had happened and she put her arm around me. Later, I found out this lady is Jen, the founder and head brewer of Tie & Timber. How many other head brewers spend time amongst their patrons, not to mention console them when they hear said patrons dog has passed away? I'd say none that's how many. But, it wasn't just Jen, it was everyone in this place, they were all exceptionally nice and friendly. There is zero pretentiousness in this taproom, and that was so refreshing after having grown accustomed to ample amounts of it at so many breweries. The guys behind the bar were happy to talk shop with me as I'm an avid homebrewer myself. Curtis, Jen's partner, even gave me some tastes of what they had in fermentation. Beyond all the great people, there is some of the best beer I've tasted in this region (Arkansas-Missouri) and they are definitely brewing the best beer in Springfield. Everything I tasted was very good, but these brews are not to be missed: Mimoski, Kokomo Porter, Green Fingers, Basil Saison, and Hoptomic Blond. These 5 beers were really special. It's a pity I live so far away, if I lived in the Springfield area this would become my regular spot for sure. I can't wait to return here and see what they're brewing soon. If you like good people, good conversation, dogs, and excellent beer then plan a visit to Tie...
Read moreThis is a great spot with lots of outdoor seating and a wide variety of beers to choose from.
You can try 5 oz samples in a "flight," get pints of your favorite, and get large 32oz cans to go.
As a former brewer I was impressed with the quality of the beers, the styles were clean and accurate. Many of them used extracts for flavors ranging from basil in the saison, peach in the kolsch, and Pina colada in an IPA! Those may not be for everyone, but classic Pale Ale and IPAs are there for the die hard beer fan.
It appeared to be all counter service, no waitcomrades working but that was fine, you can keep a tab open to reorder another round.
They didn't serve food, but there are a lot of options like Imo's pizza or tacos just steps away, and you are welcome to bring in outside food.
There was no live music when I was there (just after work on a Wednesday) but it sounds like they often do, which would make it a great gathering spot.
Well behaved dogs are welcome, there were several on the patio.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff as well, a fun spot...
