On a recommendation from Mikes Musings on Facebook. My family n I decided to try this establishment.
My expectations we set low , I’ve been let down by other similar chain restaurants.
When we arrived. Immediately greeted with a smiling face and seated . Our server was absolutely perfect. It was our first time. She was great at explaining menu and soup options.
Diana W. Was superb and the best server ever. Even if the food wasn’t great. We would come back just because of her. (But the food eas awesome)
I ordered the AYCE fried fish. Omg they gave so much on first plate , I didn’t need to order anymore . This fish compares to English fried fish, crispy, golden and not greasy. Fries were crinkle cut and seasoned well. Same was typical coleslaw (I’m not a fan of any)
Brother ordered the gigantic Double decker club . This sandwich was huge . Nicely toasted, layers of meat cheese and bacon with fresh crisp lettuce and tomato and a lil mayo .
2 adult daughters got the VIB create your own breakfast. They were very ecstatic about that option. As they didn’t wanna be stuck with something they don’t like. And 1 has a slight egg allergy. Biscuits n gravy . Soft , fluffy biscuits with a mild pepper gravy. (Needs more sausage) very delectable. A stack of 3 pancakes so sweet, buttery and light n fluffy , country or home fries . Golden brown tender and crisp . With of course bacon… need I say more
Other one was pancakes , Golden brown hash browns , bacon and biscuits n gravy
blueberry pancakes topped with real buleberries .. Omg didn’t even need syrup . And huge . Sausage links were perfectly cooked as well as the over easy eggs. (Most are overcooked )
Also had an order of onion rings. So crispy flavorful. I usually need ranch but these were totally awesome .
Pies pies and more pies . What can I say. If I lived closer . I’d definitely buy all my holiday lies from them .
Chocolate silk, Coconut
Now for the bad part… They was out of Banana cream 😢
But that gives us a reason to come back
Total for 5 people and 1 whole pie with 2 additional pies , extras and 5 drinks
$125
Which is very cheap for the 5 of us. ( we eat out...
Read moreWe rarely eat out as a family so when we do it’s a treat. We started our day at Village Inn on S Campbell for some brunch before a day of family fun. First we had to wait 10 min to be seated- no big deal. Then our server was fast to take our order which was great! With two little kids, we were looking forward to the fast service we have come to love at the Ozark VI. 35 min waiting for our order we saw people who had been seated after us, be served, eat, and leave... all while we waited. I finally went to the hostess and pointed out how long we had been waiting. She said she would go back and check. We’re all starving- I've thought of every game I could think of to keep them occupied (iSpy, hand switch, tic tax toe... our patience was fleeting). Our server brought out ketchup and Tabasco to our table telling us “they’re working on your order now”... 10 min later... total of 40 min, we were served. I’ve worked in food service and I know when food had died in the window. The butter had melted off the kids “funny face” pancakes and the server joked “oh look the nose had fallen off” 🙄. My biscuits and gravy had formed a coating and the fries were limp and soon after went cold. My husband’s omelet was the only thing that looked halfway fresh. We had just ordered simple breakfast food! Something I could whip up in my own kitchen in 10 min or less! No one apologized, the check was subtly slipped under a plate and even my server seemed surprised when I went back to lay 15% tip down on the table. Here’s a tip: communication. If the kitchen lost a ticket or is behind or maybe the server got slammed... it all happens- but just COMMUNICATE. Apologize. Offer a free piece of pie. Just don’t act like it’s nothing because we are nice guests who seem to be waiting patiently. Esp if I break enough to alert the hostess (admittedly because I couldn’t tell who the supervisor was). Check your times. Has this family been waiting 40 min for pancakes, biscuits and a burrito? Let’s make this right. Not serve dead food and act like nothing happened. We will never visit...
Read moreSpringfield, Missouri. The heartland of America. A place where you can find honest, hardworking folks, and some mouthwatering good pie. I’m talking about The Village Inn, a classic Diner that has been serving comfort food since the Eisenhower era. I stopped by on a Wednesday, when they had a deal that’s hard to beat: a free slice of pie with any entree. How can you say no to that?
I ordered the chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy, a dish that screams Americana. The steak was tender and juicy, coated in a crispy batter that had just the right amount of spice. The potatoes were smooth and buttery, and the gravy was thick and flavorful. It was a hearty meal that filled me up, but not too much. I still had room for pie.
The waitress brought me a slice of apple pie, with a generous dollop of whipped cream on top. She told me that the pies are made fresh every day, using quality ingredients and their top-secret pie recipes. She also told me a bit about the history of The Village Inn, how it started as a small coffee shop in Denver, Colorado, and how it grew to over 200 locations across the country. She said that the restaurant prides itself on its family atmosphere, and its loyal customers.
I took a bite of the pie, and I was blown away. The crust was flaky and buttery, the filling was sweet and tangy, and the whipped cream was light and airy. It was one of the best pies I’ve ever had, and believe me, I’ve had a lot of pies. It was the perfect way to end my meal.
The Village Inn is more than just a Diner. It’s a slice of American history, culture and cuisine. It’s a place where you can get a delicious meal, friendly service and a free slice of pie on Wednesday’s between 10 am and 10 pm. It’s a place where you can feel at home, even if you’re not from around here.
If you’re ever in Springfield, do yourself a favor and check it out. Your stomach will give you a pat on the...
