La Cabanita — Restaurant in Springville

A 3rd rate Mexican food restaurant. Was just there tonight and the food is mediocre, the service was good. Our bill (4 people) was confusing. We added shrimp to the “street taco” dish and was told shrimp was extra (which is ok) but when the girl at the register was ringing it up it totaled to an amount that seemed to fit what we ate. She stopped what she was doing and talked to a man sitting at the bar and asked him a question about our bill. She came back to the register and rang another amount in and it was 15 dollars higher. When questioned, there was no explanation other than shrimp was extra. I asked for an itemized bill and was told they don’t do that. So I will NOT be patronizing this restaurant ever again. It seems to me this restaurant has lost the love of cooking. Everything I ordered tasted as if prepared with minimal effort.....or ingredients. The salsa had no heat/spice and was too runny (Think canned tomatoes with a sprinkle of pepper). The guacamole dip should be renamed avocado dip because that's all there was. No chopped veggies, no cilantro, no lime. Just ugly guacamole. The chimichanga was disappointing. Should be crisp and flaky. Was a soggy mess. Shredded chicken inside was dry and bland. No cheese sauce like most chimichangs. The "Spanish rice" was a joke. The Uncle Ben's microwave pouch is better than this. Very sad. I'd suggest going back to the basics. I got 2 hard shell tacos with rice and beans and both of the taco shells were very stale, and hardly had any cheese on them at all, maybe a pinch at most. They gave me like 3 spoonfuls worth of rice as well. Chips were good though.

The meal was $8.99 but when I went to go pay my bill I gave them a $20 and got $2 back. He then shows me it says $17.99 on the bottom for whatever reason (didn’t get cheese dip or anything else besides a water), but he did apologize and gave me the correct change. Not that $10 is a big deal or anything but they will try and rip you off if you’re not paying attention.
