Celiac Review: Lovely atmosphere. We have eaten there many times since my parents moved here in 07. Over the years Itâs been a go to spot and usually the first or last place we eat as itâs been a âspot â for family things, so full of memories and the food is good. As someone whoâs suffered from celiac for 21 years; The staff has always taken great care of me. This time was very different. The Waiter this time was knowledgeable and also aggressive. I felt he really tried to force us to order things. Iâve never said no thank you so many times for something Iâm expected to pay for; It did not come across as helpful. In addition despite stating he was allergy aware. He was not. Shared fryers are not gluten free. After disputing me when I questioned it. He went to the chef. Returning to tell me I was correct. But also faith that youâre not going to hurt me also left the room at that point. I Ordered Cobb Salad and chicken. No ability to make any substitutions I asked for no corn. Told it wasnât possible that it was made already. Salad arrived last to table with no chicken. I turned to ask the fellow who brought it. He was gone before I could as the question. I told my parents to eat, sat patiently as they did. 5 minutes after it was taken away. Then brought back. Now we are there 10 minutes waiting on the simplest plate.
I got a wonderful unsolicited explanation of how Theyâd missed it on the order. Obviously. Food was ok, nothing like Market of the past years. I live in NYC itâs equivalent to a salad at Chopâd nowhere near as good as like sweetgreen. These are walk up chain salad places if youâre not aware.
Iâm allergic to grapes as well. All the dressings had grape vinegar. So dry salad with olive oil. In Napa? Really? For a 35 dollar chicken salad you canât find me a dressing?
My parents swordfish special looked good. The plating was nothing special. A bed of couscous and a piece of swordfish plopped on top. They said they enjoyed it.
Started to feel sick after. Not horrendous. But definitely some cross contamination somewhere.
Everyone has a bad day. Itâs harder to deal With those when it affects your health. I think it will be hard for me to return unless they address the allergy situation better. It would be nice to have e some clearly marked options and a willingness to make something fresh when the menu doesnât suit someone. Iâm not trying to be difficult. Just trying not to pay to get sick. Iâve rated and reviewed my recent visit on gluten free sites as well. Lots of other choices in town. YMMV. But since itâs such a departure from my previous experience. I feel compelled to review for...
Read moreI'm a pretty critical person, so when I write reviews I tend to give 5-stars sparingly, even if the experience is good. For that reason, I was going to give Market a 4, but when I thought about it... there was really not a single flaw in the experience! In fact, I'm a local and this is now my favorite restaurant in Napa Valley.
FOOD: Excellent. We had the calamari (very tender, perfectly battered; a little spicy, so avoid if you don't like any heat); split a small portion of mac and cheese (good and rich, but perhaps a little overpriced); then went on to entrees of filet mignon (perfectly cooked, juicy and tender, decent size and very nicely priced) and zinfandel-braised lamb shank (also perfect size, price, and flavor.) The portions were large enough for us to take half home to make room for a wonderful dessert, which was butterscotch pudding in a homemade waffle cone shell.
ATMOSPHERE: Very nice. Classy and comfortable. Cozy size and a perfect balance between sophisticated and casual.
SERVICE: Excellent. Our waiter was professional and friendly. We could tell he took his job seriously without being stuffy, pretentious, or bitter. That seems to be pretty hard to find in waitstaff these days.
PRICES: Pretty reasonable The small plates/appetizers seem a little pricey, but the large plates/entrees are very reasonable. It's also nice that there is a selection of fancified "casual" food like cheeseburger, mac and cheese, and buttermilk fried chicken, which are a good value.
DRINKS: We didn't try their drinks; we brought our own wine we really wanted to have because there is NO CORKAGE FEE. That is actually the main reason we chose this restaurant. Living in Napa, we have plenty of wine at home, and we know what we like and what would pair well with our food... so we don't like paying an arm and a leg to get something we don't know and might not like at a restaurant. So we didn't get to try their wines or other drinks, but the no corkage policy is definitely a bonus (it's what caused us to choose this restaurant over Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen and Redd in Yountville, which has an outrageous...
Read moreI really like the inside of this place. Love the old style feel. This place has a very nice and friendly staff. They are welcoming when we got there and tried to do dinner early. The told us they didnât start for another 30 so we walk around. They were very nice and sat us by the window when we came back. The GM was super friendly and accommodating. So be honest about the food.. I felt like it was a bit over rated. Everything I had that night was very bland. I felt like their food was not season well and also the food took a very long time. It took close to 40mins to get our first app that was just a crab cake. The crab cake was very bready and could not taste the crab and was greasey. It was severed on a bed of corn and green onions that were under cooked. The second app we had that was actually a special was empanadas. This dish was very very odd considering they are going for an unscale high end American. The empanada was very bland as well and the sauce that come with it didnât have much seasoning not any spiciness. It felt like this dish was a mash of flavors and not cohesion with the flavors working together. I would say they ever fresh! I also had the salad that was 17dollars for a salad with pears, lettuce, dressing, walnuts, cranberries. Felt over price for what the waiter call âa hand full of greensâ. This dish was very disappointing. The lettuce was soaked in dressing an you could tell it had been sitting back there for a while because the lettus was very wilty. For mains we had the Mac and cheese that they call one of there staples. We also had the Rosie chicken breast. The Mac and cheese wasnât really anything special. The chicken was cooked well and being very juicy. The chicken was not seasoned. The vegetable were good. The garlic potato gnocchi was very dry. The food was very slow coming out of the kitchen here. Keep that in mind going here. I think in the end I will not be returning here. Great...
