The Saint — Restaurant in St. Helena

I'll keep this brief and just note specifics. Cuisine. Disappointing. My chopped salad was brand and the grilled chicken was dry, not at all worth $38. My wife had the roasted chicken breast and requested mashed potatoes instead of Yukon potatoes. Not a big deal but a simple request that was over looked and by the time the mashed potatoes arrived she was almost finished. Noise level. The Saint is a very small establishment with a bar area (noice reverberates). There was group of 3-4 very loud guests at the bar. Normally this is not an issue for us but considering we were celebrating our anniversary and the profanity being used at the bar, it distracted from the dining experience. The menu notes a 20% gratuity will be included in the bill. I don't appreciate being required to tip 20%. "A gratuity is a discretionary, additional payment on top of a check total given as a token of gratitude for good service and great hospitality." I've been in the service industry for over 25 years and understand the significance of a gratuity and will happily tip accordingly. The host mentioned the 20% while showing us the bill and coyly added we could add more if we desired. Seriously!

In summary, a very bad dining experience. Your time and money would be better given to other dining establishments...

We recently hosted a rehearsal dinner for 70 people at The Saint. It exceeded our expectations in every possible way. We wanted a very casual event with heavy appetizers and a varied selection of wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages. The entire experience from planning through the night of the event was amazing and went off smoothly. This was a destination wedding and everything was able to be planned easily by phone and email. We helped select the menu, and the food was delicious and plentiful. The setting was perfect with beautiful decor, sitting areas, and a beautiful bar. The Saint has its own wine label and several people (including me) ordered wine to be shipped to our homes. I cannot begin to describe the attentiveness of the staff. They constantly refilled glasses, whisked away empty plates, and responded immediately to every request. We also had a duo that played music that added a nice touch to the evening.
