Nestled in The Hill in St. Louis, Lorenzo’s Trattoria distinguishes itself with its Northern Italian fare that carries a contemporary touch, setting it apart from the traditional offerings of the region. Its classy and laid-back atmosphere creates a versatile dining environment, perfect for a business dinner or a family meal. However, despite its refined setting and reasonable prices, my experience was a mixed bag, earning it a 3-star rating on my scale.
Service at Lorenzo's was prompt. Our server ensured our drink and food orders were delivered in a timely manner. However, the briskness of the service gave an unintended impression of rushing through the meal, leaving a desire for a more relaxed pace that would match the restaurant's elegant ambiance.
The food, while promising in description, was unfortunately overshadowed by its excessive saltiness. We started with a trio of appetizers - the Grilled Shrimp Scampi, Goat Cheese Ravioli, and Crispy Calamari. The Grilled Shrimp Scampi, served with white beans, arugula, roasted peppers, and lemon aioli, was nicely done but was too salty. The house-made Goat Cheese Ravioli, served in a tomato-basil, pancetta broth, suffered a similar fate, with the salt overpowering the delicate balance of flavors. The Crispy Calamari, served with zucchini strips and a tomato-saffron vinaigrette on a bed of sautéed spinach, was also excessively salty, diminishing the taste of the tender calamari and the complex vinaigrette.
For the main course, I opted for the Seafood Risotto, a dish comprising shrimp, calamari, and scallops in a mushroom ragù. The other members of my party ordered the Grilled Beef Tenderloin Medallions, served with garlic whipped potatoes and asparagus in a mushroom red wine reduction. The risotto was a highlight, cooked to perfection and filled with a generous helping of seafood. However, the same issue of saltiness persisted. The Grilled Beef Tenderloin Medallions were cooked well, but the excessive saltiness again masked the dish's inherent flavors.
In conclusion, Lorenzo’s Trattoria has the potential to be a great dining experience, with its classy ambiance, a menu that promises a modern take on traditional Italian cuisine, and efficient service. However, the heavy-handed use of salt in the dishes we tried detracted from the overall experience. A lighter touch would allow the quality of the ingredients and the skills of the chef to...
Read moreThis restaurant only has a start because I couldn’t give any less. This was the worst meal I have not been able to eat in a long time. The food is severely overpriced and the quality leaves everything to be desired. I have had gnocchi in many cities across Italy and I have made it myself on numerous occasions. It is my favorite food. As such, I know that it is not supposed to disintegrate into milky mashed potatoes as soon as it enters your mouth. They were about six times larger than they are meant to be and were clearly cooked six times too long as well. It was actually disgusting. The meals of the other people dining with me were also very bad. The server was very rude and condescending. After paying $160 for the meal, we had to go get food somewhere else because we couldn’t stand more than a few bites. We tried to tell the server that the food was not quite right and he simply replied “oh okay” and walked away. I absolutely would not recommend this to even my worst enemy. It’s way too expensive for the haphazard service and absolute catastrophe of a meal we experienced. After the experience, I can guarantee we will not be returning. And I will be advising everyone I know to keep...
Read moreSo the hubby and I have both picked up UBEREATS deliveries from here, so for my bday he (along with my close friends) surprised me!! Can I just say this was an experience that anyone who can afford it should have-not only because the food was magnificent, but the staff was truly amazing! I'm big on customer service and even tho our full party hadn't arrived, we were lead to our reserved room and immediately introduced to Jen(we found out later she's also the manager and we see why💪🏽😁). The way she gave us a very detailed synopsis of the Off Menu items, we were ready to order drinks(there is no drink menu for this, but they offer all the regular cocktails-i for a whiskey mule and it was strong and delicious 😋)cuz the actual menu included alot of stuff I wanted to try! 30mins later, we finally ordered not bc of them but because we were comfortable lol. I went with the fresh seafood pasta sub the angel hair pasta 🤤 and hubby veal(it was new for him and he wasn't too fond of the bone marrow 🤣🤣🤦🏽♀️) also had the mussels which were smaller than I expected, but still flavorful! All of my guests truly enjoyed the food and hospitality-we will surely...
